markbivvy
You should be aware that although the foreign sender may have completed the customs declaration form on the parcel you are regarded (in law) as the importer of the goods and responsible for the information on the declaration, and any customs charges that may be due. This means that if you purchase goods from these suppliers and the declaration is found to be false or misleading you may be liable to financial penalties or criminal prosecution. Furthermore the goods themselves will be liable to forfeiture. It is in your own interests to ensure Customs declarations are completed proper ah ******. if they are busy they might not open yours. how lucky do you feel. Down South
Received my scope from the US november this year. $334 including p&p. £25.76 paid in import duty etc, I was still £130 better off than buying in the UK. gadgit
Don't forget the post office collect the duty ect, and will charge you £8 as well just to pick it up!!!!!! Although you have paid everything else. what a ******!!! Be carefull, it used to be that the price in$ ended up being the price nearly in£££. Its not that bad now due to the £v$ but it is still a toss up as to if its worth all the bother. Research it properly before you take the plunge. al4x
It is a bit of a gamble, as said its VAT plus a percentage plus a handling fee by the shipping company, this can vary from about £5 to £18 depending what company they use to send it over. Marking as a gift can work but helps if you send it to someone else otherwise putting a low declared value can help. But with this customs can if they deem the value to be wrong put their own value on it. Whichever way you will save but the other thing to check is the exchange rate your credit card company charges as this can vary a fair bit.
