chippy18
96 Landrover Discovery V8. Best 4x4 i 've had . Mines the dogs nads inside and is comfy as hell. Only downside being petrol is mileage. About 15 mpg normal driving and about 22mpg on a run and not booting it. But i think it worth it for the ride and i only really use it for going shooting anyway. Cheers Edited January 15, 2008 by chippy18
Guest The Outlaw
Calam and I have two Jago Geep kit cars, they are useless off road and have been laid up for years, however one of them has a brand brand new, shinny new genuine ford RS2000 engine in it, camed along with vernia timing adjustment and carbed up it goes like stink with the MT75 5 speed box, a Mk1 Escort Van Axle with the silliest ratio ever and it will do wheelies, we dont get stuck in mud we fly over it uncontrolably. Untested I estimate it will do 18 to the gallon but its great fun Tony

tosspot
ran a landie for 11 years, then a Hilux now an L200 without a shadow of a doubt the most FUN came from the Hilux refused to break even after throwing it down the road on its side for 70 yards, local ****** collected and drove away Clarkson was right on this one
BSA Shaun
Ran a landrover discovery, fantastic motor if you can wield a spanner every now and again, 2.5td probably average around 25mpg. Ran a Vitara 1.6, great on fuel and went pretty much anywhere - selctive 4wd Work with a guy who has a Hilux pick up - selective 4wd, only pain in the bum with it is no freewheeling hubs so have to keep getting out when engaging 4wd. However its a cracking motor, goes anywhere (I can vouch for it) 2.4td, carries around 4-6 loads of logs around daily, with a bigger custom pick up rear end to get more on, and he puts £60 in it every 10 days. (so yes a fourtrak is required also ) BM.
bigt1754
Got a 2001 freelander TD4 back in June, and its great. I'm in fields and woods all the time and i struggle to get the traction control to kick in ( I have tried ). Its the ES model so the heated seats this time of the year are nice Its got its critics and previous versions have had their problems, but this has a BMW engine and I'm getting 450 miles to a fill up. If you use it for dog transport, the rear window comes down for ventilation and you wont notice any draft in the front. BUT...... IF i had the money, it would be the new suberu forester diesel. BSA Shaun
Just got rid of my Frontera 2.2 turbo diesel. Very good on and off road. 38mpg and far better than the Discovery that it replaced. I miss it - cheapest car I have ever had to run. Think that answers your question

WGD
Hey all, as some of you may know I am in the market for a decent all round hunting wagon. I really like the Isuzu trooper (a decent one can be picked up for reasonable money) but the 3.1td is only good for about 25-28 mpg so I am not sure if I can swallow that pill. So I ask what is your hunting wagon and what mpg does it regularly do? G Check out Trooper's thoroughly, either the 3.0TD or 3.1TD has a reputation for a dodgy engine - just recall this from speaking recently to the guy who own the clay ground I shoot at, he had one and traded it in at 40K miles; it was sold locally and shortly after there was a big problem. Sorry can't remember more details, will give him a call to find out if you want. WGD

luckytrigger
Another vote for the fourtrack here.. I take mine offroad three times a week where it performs brilliantly. Mpg is around 28-30. It will do a genuine 90mph on the motorway although i generally potter around b-roads at a more sedate '55' It seems bulletproof and has electric mirrors and windows etc. All in all a great motor
Suffolk shooter
I have a Landrober 90 with 3.0l v6 conversion. Probably lucky to reach 20mpg. Ah, you have a baby 90. I have the Daddy, 3.5L V8 PETROL. SS

pin
I've seen what it costs StealthStalker in his 2.2 petrol, I can't imagine what the 3.5 V8 must be like. Presumably you can get from at least one petrol station to the next without filling up with fuel, but dare you drive it anywhere else?
