Balaclave
How are chickens killed at the abbatoir, i cant imagine them stunning and killing each one like they do with cows or pigs. They show you how they are reared but never killed.

Cranfield
The ones I have seen were electrocuted and then bled. I would imagine there is a Defra approved method/regulation somewhere.

J@mes
they are taken from the baskets that are on the back of the lorry and hung upside down by their feet in shackles - being upside down stops them from flapping about. they then pass through a water bath that is electrified, and this knocks them out. the shackle conveyor carries them to a seriously sharp blade where the head is taken off. they are then conveyed over a trough into which they bleed out, and then on to where the rest of the process takes place. all under the control of a supervising vet too. Hodmedod.one
From 77 to 80 I worked on the live bird collection side of poultry processing. The plant we delivered to used to kill the birds automatically with a machine that electrocuted them and then slit their throats. This was then made illegal under EU regulations as it was possible for the machine to miss the odd bird which meant that they would be going into the scalding tank alive (they are immersed in boiling water for a short time so that the feathers come out easier). They altered the procedure so that the birds were electrically stunned and then an operator grabbed each ones head and manually slit its throat. They then bleed to death whilst still unconscious from the electric shock. This was all overseen by a ministry approved inspector. The guy used to do 8000 a day. He started each day in snow white overalls/boots/apron/hat at 0700 and by 0800 he was red from head to foot. Nice. We used to supply some Asians who used to send their own guy to slit the birds throats. They also insisted that the electric shock machine was turned off. The inspector went along with it. Nobody worries about any of that when the Chickens are shrink wrapped in Tesco's.

Lord Geordie
I used to work for a company who slaughtered and processed around 350 birds a day!! They are brought to the building in cages then taken from the cage and hung by the legs! The Knife used to slitting the throat has 2 prongs on the rear and this stuns the bird then you turn the knife over and slit the throat and let the bird bleed out. After the bleed out they are unhooked and thrown in to hot water and then into a plucking drum (a Big drum with rubber fingers spinning rather fast) Once the come out the plucker there are a few small feathers left which are removed by hand then on to the gutting table. The head is removed also then an incision is made down the neck and the neck is removed and the wind pipe removed The Stomach Heart and Neck were kept. Lastly they were taken to a device that looked like a torture device from a movie. You mack a cut round the bottom of the knees break the leg back and then fit them into the slots of the device and when you pull the lever it pulls the claws off the leg and also removes the tendons. Final wash and bagged job done
Big_Sam
Yikes, I'm glad I am not a chicken! Some people complain about pheasant shoots, but I see them as being a bit more humane, at least they get a good life before a sudden end with a bunch of #5s. In the post of your's that was removed, you clearly stated how much of a fan of their's, you are. You're going to have to face it; If you want to be a conscience free veggie, you're gonna have to give up the bacon sarnies. You are a Troll, goodbye.
