walked the fields, sat in the hide, shot the flight lines and the roost, pigeons and crows galore, watched the field mouse come and have a look, got shocked by a rather large heron, tried to remember what the black capped *** is called and told the pheasants how bloody lucky they are when they flew in to my hide, cold but very, very good day out.

Well as promised a hard days shooting, birds were the fastest i have seen in a long time, helped along by the wind and came in infrequent bursts, Damian and Cos turned up on time and turned out to be top gents with a willingness to learn that has typified all of the people i have met whilst shooting, i spent the day showing Damian the ropes and Cos had a master class from my bud Andy, decoy patterns laid and relaid, magnets set and reset, cammo netting fussed over and loads of other topics discussed, like what they each had in their tuperware boxes for lunch!! they had both brought along enough food to feed an army!

The birds came and Damian discovered that clay shooting is very different to a live bird that will turn in its flight so fast that it must have thrown out anchors, being new to all this and having to learn how to shoot from a hide i think he coped very well, his nerves must have been frazzled by the time we moved over to the roost shoot but his grin stayed in place all day.

As we moved from the big field to do some roost shooting both cos and Damian took pigeons, cos took a crow with a superb shot and then had to leave early to go pick his kids up, what a gent, he left with a big smile on his face and a better understanding of what decoying pigeons is about thanks to my bud Andy who gave up his own time to help out, credited with the best shot of the day, well done that man and i look forward to shooting with you again some day soon

Damian then took a class in breasting out pigeons and to his credit got stuck in, they are probably already in the pan as i type this, we then got out the air rifle, another first for Damian, and had a look out for some rabbits, first one was shot at 35 yards and flopped into the field, do you think i could find it! so wish i had had the dog with me, the weather by now was rain, rain, rain, oh and some wind, i moved us into the lee of the wood and lamped up a rabbit straight away, resting on a bail of hay gave me a shot at 30 yards and down it went, Damian marked this one and as i had noticed another close by i took the shot, straight through its ear!! it ran straight at me and i followed it till it paused to shake its head and then whop! down it went head shot, Damian then had a shot but no kill, it paused at the sheep fence and was dispatched in short order with another shot, retrieved by eagle eyed Damian from at my feet when i couldn't see it for looking, pack up and go home time was upon us as the weather was getting really busy by now, but not before a class in rabbit preparation, to his credit Damian didn't gag or cry off but got stuck in as well, i showed him how to gut skin and joint the carcasses and sent him home with a bag full of goodies for the freezer and a bloody great smile on his face, wet , cold and covered in mud, as promised

look forward to next time guys and maybe there will be more for the game bag.

Terry,

You and your buddy Andy are gentlemen.

Thanks for a fantastic day out, and though the bags aren't anything to brag about, for me the amount

of knowledge I absorbed is absolutely invaluable.

I really enjoyed my day and can't wait to practice my new found skills and knowledge.

Cheers mate, and please send my thanks to Andy as well.

Regards

A very grateful

Cos

A bit slow on the uptake I only just found this thread and review! I did PM terry at the time but it's nice to get a chance to thank him publicly.

My first day's pigeon shooting and I absolutely loved it. Terry was a great teacher and it was amazing how much he managed to show me in one day. I have spent the time since reading pigeon shooting books and scouring the net for equipment and can't wait to get out in a field again soon.

Terry - thank you once again for all your help, I'm still smiling!

Damian

Tel Time,

If you're shooting in the Hertford area at any time I'd love to come out with you if I may, as I've only just moved to Hertford and am currently in a shooting lull so really would love to start going more regularly.
