SNAKEBITE
I have a flashing light on the dashboard that indicates that the seatbelt pretensioner circuit has gone south. It has happened on and off for the last year or so. I have managed to get it to go out by cleaning the connection block and fiddling with it in the past but this time, no luck. Is it an mot failiure? I aim to get it fixed a.s.a.p. but money is a little tight at the moment and I am taking it for the mot tomorrow!
harv
if there is no mechanical failure on the seatbelt it should not fail, pull the fuse if it has one or cover it?
Cranfield
They do test seat belts on an MOT, but I think they just ensure that they work when body weight moves forward. If the "pretensioners" are what makes they roll back nicely into their holders, I don't think they can be important. My truck has passed about 4 MOT's with the drivers seat belt not returning to its holder hardly at all. Perhaps a real mechanic (like LB) will be along in a minute. SNAKEBITE
The pretensioner is the bit that goes "bang" and makes the seatbelt go tight(er) in the event of it all going horribly wrong. The mechanical properties of the belt are good and fully functioning.

lurcherboy
It's not a failure as it's a suplementary restraint system and as long as the ABS light isn't illuminated at the same time it will pass. I would expect an advice sheet issued by the NT highlighting the problem and covering his ****. It's a regular problem on BMW's. Open the connections and make them tighter be crimping the metal for better contact. LB

SNAKEBITE
Thanks for the advice. Well it passed ok. Well to be honest I stuck a sticker over the warning light saying "MOT due March 8th" and "Oil channge June". What was not seen wasn't worried about. However I do need to change the rear shoes and I am guessing that's when the karma is going to come round and bite my ***!
