dead-eye
Im no expert with rifles, but a lot of people seem to be using the tikka t3 and the sako 75.
Graham M
I have the Tikka T3 and although it is a very good rifle I wish I had saved that little bit more for the Sako. The Tikka has a straight ambidextrous stock and can be shot by a leftie if needed, whereas the Sako comes with proper cast and a cheek-piece which allows you to drop in behind the scope without tilting your head. Can’t for the life of me see why they couldn’t have used a Sako stock ((properly profiled) for the Tikka as they come from the same manufacturers and I wouldn’t have though it would have put more than another £30 on the price. The upside is that the Tikka is much lighter than the Sako which makes it easier to carry around for longer periods. Then there is the Remington which is pretty well the Ford Escort of rifles, but has so many add-on bits that can be bought almost anywhere. G.M. Devilishdave
The remington 700 may be the Ford Escort but it can be upgraded to become an RS 200 without to much effort or money. Dave
Oly
Now you've started it GM!! If Remingtons the Ford Escort then Tikka are the Seat Ibiza...good owners but aren't built have as well as the Sako/VW!!! To be honest though GM I think your statement is a little sweeping. Remington make a massive range of rifles compared to Tikka and the varying quality of parts (and hence prices) need to be taken into account. So yes, your probably right that a Remington's lower end (e.g. SPS models) are Ford Escort material (but like has been said above is highly adaptable as per any Remmy), but the higher end are getting on into Police spec Volvo T5 range. However, in comparison all Tikka's generally are the same sort of standard. So in answer to your question Nick, Remington or Sako for me Edited February 25, 2008 by Oly

tulkyuk
I own both a Tikka T3 and a Sako 75 - Sako wins it hands down every time, for quility and finish
Dunkield
Why does it always have to be a T3/Sako or a Remington? there must be dozens of other rifles to choose from.

Baldrick
I'm a little fed up with the Tikka or Remmie theme too. I've got one of each, before anyone jumps in. Why not break away from the flock and consider one of the following factory brands?: Sauer Browning Steyr Heym Krico Blaser Savage Cooper Montana Riflemen Ruger
DaveK
No-one has mentioned the obvious yet. We all have our favourites, be it for practical or Gucci reasons but in the end its what you get on with. Get down behind a few different ones and see what you feel comfortable with. I have a Parker Hale which was a dog out of the box but with perseverence and loadsamoney is a nice rifle now. A friend of mine has a Ruger 77 that he gets on with nicely thank you (but I don't like it). Don't discount the CZ 527. Cheap and cheerful and very practical. BTW my favourite is Lorraines Remy 700. Hodmedod.one
My Steyr SSG .243. I cannot fault it.
Baldrick
I tried an RWS Titan, Stuart, as RWS is one of the few manufacturers gracious enough to make the Titan in left-hand. I found the rifle a little tinny, and agricultural in terms of build quality. It shot well, but it isn't as sophisticated as a T3, let alone a Sako/Steyr. Devilishdave
Here is my .243 Ford Escort: It has a timney trigger, harris bipod, Mag convertion, T8 moderator, Scmidt and Bender 8x56 Hungarian, warne bases and mounts. It shoots sub inch all day long which is good enough for me. the lighter and faster the bullets I put through it the more accurate it tends to be. bob300w
Cor, that was nice and easy guys, not a fight in sight! So we are all agreed that we buy and use exactly what we like, as can everyone else, yes? Must be the most sensible debate ever on PW. (well so far, it could go downhill of course). Devilishdave
I got it from ebay about 9 months ago before they had the big small arms parts clamp down. Cost was about £30 including postage if I remember correctly. You might beable to get one from Brownells, Cabellas or Midway. Failing that you will beable to get on from Midway UK I guess. I did have to do a fair amount of inleting work to the aluminium bedding block to get it to fit so not quite the one for one exchange I had hoped for. Lets have a look at your escort Lorraine?
