jimlsd
I wen't out today on rape... i got there and set up with a good westerly blowing.. i had three pigeons within 30 mins and then the rain started..... in between showers it seemed to pick up again but when the rain got heavier nothing apeared.....i eventally gave up due to a good soaking....... i knew my chances were slim but the rain killed it for me.....any tips apart from the obvious??... i had to change my pattern as well as they were veering away from it......it was a horseshoe then i clumped them together and that seemed to work???. p.s i am a bit rusty as its the first time ive been out for months.... Blackbart
Pigeons generaly dont like getting their feet muddy or getting wet it seems. They will decoy in the rain but it seems to work better if it has been raining for a few days in a row and i think its just a case of hunger taking over
wildfowler-2007
Hi jim the pigeons would have been in the woods today after the rain we have had today if its not to bad pigeons will still flight but once it gets to heavy they stay in house like you should have lol
triscrx
I never get much joy in the rain and sometimes your decoys will shine when wet which can also put them off. If its just a light spitting it usually ok
mr smith
At least your getting out now Jim,bit of a pi££er after all that time and the doos don't want to play.
Cranfield
Heavy rain makes pigeon shooting over decoys a waste of time in my opinion. If you want to be out and about in it, then try to get into some woods , thats where the birds will be. If the forecast is for it to be dry later, then get back on the field before the rain stops. When it does the pigeons will try to get back in for a feed before bedtime, it can be fast and furious then.

Blackbart
Dont think it is an old wives tale,if you ask most people on hear i think that most would say decoying in the rain will produce far fewer birds.

lurcherboy
I have completely abandoned the horseshoe pattern Jim and haven't seen any woodies feeding like that for a while. I set 20-30 deeks in a random pattern that loosely resembles an oval shape from above no more than a yard apart from each other. If you set a rotory set it either very near the hide or as far away as possible although I now leave this at home too because it isn't drawing them. Have you got a flapper? If so give that a try it worked wonders for me at the weekend. Remember that the majority of woodies will attempt to land at the far end or at the front of the pattern. Good luck All had muddy feet  LB Edited March 10, 2008 by lurcherboy

Cheers, Jim similar to above , iwent out today on a wheat field and it was ****** of rain and i had 5 deeks in a sort of horse shoe shape, the doos were coming in consistantly after i walked about 150 + off the field i got 9 in an hour and a half and a right and a left for the first shot, which was good because i wasnt expecting anything, so its worth while taking a chance in the rain! even though i got soaked it was worth it in the end like! my tip would be have your deeks quite close in bcause they were really sharp in lifting in the rain once they reallise its not real pigeons! cheers james
