Hello all just thought id share last nights shooting with you i have shot a good few this last couple of weeks but thought this one was worth a mention ;)

8.00pm

I drop round to pick up my mate podge we dont lamp together that often but when we do we nearly always bag a fox so i had high hopes for tonight B)

First spot on the agenda is a couple of fields with sheep lambing in them, the farmer had already informed us that he keeps seeing a pair of foxes on one of the larger fields when he checks them in the evening so we headed up the long lane and pulled up then set off i was shooting podge was on the lamp.We didnt see much at first seen a nice owl sitting on a branch had a look at him through the scope lovely looking bird  Didnt see any sign of charles so i decided to give a call with just a blade of grass as i forgot the electronic call  the call sounded fairly well and we saw a pair of eyes bouncing in but as **** law has it the fox had to cross the lane that we drove up to get into our field and the only way for it to get onto the lane was out the gate that my car was parked at  he cautiously approached the car obviously getting our scent off it then turned and ran back the way it came i was on the bi pods looking at all this but a check on the lecia showed it was 320yards out...a bit far for a rushed shot.

Second spot we try just off a main road another large sheep field we called and called nothing showed so we turned off the call and headed back to the car as we just reached the car podge shone the lamp back to where we were and sure enough what was standing in the exact spot we were in.....a bloody fox :o it didn't like the lamp much and took off running up the field :/

Third and final spot for the night(had to be up for 7am)was a place up the road from my house its covered in gorse bushes,i spotted a fox from the road in there a week previous to that so i knew for certain there was a fox in there somewhere ;) The first field we were in we spotted a fox sitting on a hill with no backstop and then podge spotted another on the left side of the field but the far side of a hill so we creeped up to the crest i got down on the bipods and got the fox in the scope.....a nice big fox at about 100yrds but it just kept moving every time i settled the cross hair it moved i don't like firing at a moving fox in case i hit it a bit far back, the fox slipped down a ditch and away :/ i thought it was going to be just one of those nights where everything goes wrong. We defiantly headed on and spotted another fox feeding very contently we got in to about 120yrds of the fox which was now looking straight at us i settled the x on her forehead and gently squeezed the trigger the fox instantly dropped and i could see a red vapor hanging in the air where the foxes head was(the clarity of a kahles has to be seen to be believed!)job done but there was still a fox further down the field which most definitely would not have being still standing there if i was not using a moderator ;)

I gave the rifle to podge much to his surprise and let him have a go he fired plenty of shots out of my hmr but never shot a fox with a rifle under lamplight so this was a first for him :) We left the first vixen under a tree and pushed on after the second fox which was getting increasingly wary as we got closer at one stage he was the far side of a pond stopped but didnt give podge enough time for the shot  we followed it for ages but it kept moving everytime podge got down :yp: Then finally an unlikely opportunity arose in the form of a jeep coming up the field in the distance the fox paused and kept looking in the direction of the jeep at 150yrds podge settled and let a 55gr hornady v-max fly...THUMP :yes::yes: well done podge was the first thing i said i was delighted for him it was a shot to be proud of especially for your 1st fox :D

We went down to the body and the jeep that helped us out pulled up beside us it was the landowner he was just down seeing what we were at he knows podge well so gave us the usual ridicule about us being mad out all hours chasing foxes ect ect  Then congratulated us for knocking the fox he also could not get over the general look of the tikka "sure thats like a thing out of die hard"were his exact words awful funny stuff altogether

He is a good shot with a rifle he can shoot very tight groups with my rifles and takes his time on the shot so its a good start :hmm: I would imagine he will be owning a rifle in the not to distant future
