My SGC just states that I must keep them locked up to prevent so far as is reasonably practible access to the shotguns by an unauotherised person.

That means that as long as I keep them locked up I am ok. There is no mention of gunsafes or anything.

My safes hold 6, but I reckon I could get 9 in it easily.

Take out the foam dividers in the gunsafe and TADA you have a metal box. Thus you are not limited by the number of holes in the foam.

As long as all your firearms are secure you will be fine.

Ferrety well done on passing your exams, you must have been able to write coherantly and in full English to do that , why not do it on here?

I am sure you will make a fine plod, enjoy it , at least you are off your backside and trying to make somthing of yourself , which is comendable.

I am not trying to belittle you , but as you well know I even went to the effort of sending you a PM or two to let you know that if you wanted response to posts , speak English. You would appear to have ignored this , and keep posting in text speak , for why or for what I have no idea.

If you are determined to try and represent yourself as a member of the lower gene pool then best of luck as a copper , but I suspect you will not go far at all.

Its just advice, take it or leave it.

Don't think it would matter , as long as the cabinet is secure, that should be there only concern... if you can fit 4 or 5 guns in it thats surely down to you.

I used to get 4 shotguns and an air rifle in a 3 gun cabinet.... though it was pretty big for a 3 gun one.

I think you might want to consider how bashed about your guns will get by being crammed into a smaller space than they deserve. That aside, I think you'll find that the number of guns is dictated by the internal measurements of the safe, not police requirements.

hi yes i no wot u mean but all i want to put in to it is a single barral 410 and thay will not be crammed i was just woundering if it is ok.thanks lads :good:

Legally you can own as many shotguns as you can securely accommodate. So as long as you can get the cabinet door shut and locked then it is fine. However I would make sure that you can accommodate the extra gun without causing scratching or bashing from squashing them altogether.

While it is not in the firearms law; the Police have the power to determine what they interpret from the act as being "reasonably secure." Hence why after acquiring a certain number of shotguns; they might impose a condition that you have an alarm fitted in your house etc. You do not have to ring them up and check with them before acquiring the shotgun; the other person just enters it onto your cert and you send off written notification within 7 days by recorded delivery or fax to the firearms licensing dept. Some may claim to accept notifications by email but; this has no legal standing.

You do not have to use the forces own notification form (if they even produce one as some do not) technically a letter with the right details included would suffice. To make matters easier for us; the Sportsman's Association has produced a generic form that can be used anywhere regardless of which police force covers it: http://www.sagbni.co.uk/downloads/Notifica...sfer_Letter.rtf

If the FEO noted you had a certain sized cabinet; then this might trigger an inquiry phone call if you exceed it's capacity. Though for shotguns they would likely only do this if you acquired more than one over the capacity limit. They know that the listed capacity of a particular cabinet is subject to some leeway.
