sunshinedave
Hi guys. Well since the FEO visit I have been optimistic about the FAC arriving with .17HMR and .22rf on it (FEO seemed happy enough). Sooo, I've been doing some thinking about what to purchase when it does come - on the HMR side of things anyway. I was pretty convinced I'd get a CZ 452 Varmint, 16" barrell and add a SAK moderator. Problem is, the stocks are all wood on the Varmints (and all HMRs?) but I really want a matt-black stock, whether it be synth or coated wood. Anyway, Hydro Graphics quotes me £100 to dip it in matt-black. (So the rifle total would be about £400). However I've been lookign at the 10/22 Rugers and the custom bits for them. For example, you can get the Hogue overmould rubber stock in black for $100ish (£65 odd imported I guess). You can also get some amazing black stainless steel fluted barrels, aswell as all the 2 stage trigger kits you could dream of. Of course, this os no good for my HMR! Does anyone know, the Ruger 77/17, would the 10/22 stocks fit (I guess not). Whats interchangeable? I'd love a custom HMR rifle, with a black stock, SS fluted barrel etc. And looking at the prices of the bits over in the USA, it'd not cost vast amounts more than what a dipped 452 Varmint would cost. Anyone got any thoughts or knowledge about the 77/17?

casts_by_fly
lots of parts interchange, but I'm pretty sure the stocks do not. And, if it is anything like in the US, good luck getting a 10/22 magnum receiver. Last I checked, they were long backordered, out of stock most places, and the ones available are fetching a premium from guys dong exactly what your'e talking about. A quick look on gunbroker shows 6, with the going price around $600. that said, if you're not set on the CZ, then savage has black synthetic stocks and stainless barrels (light or heavy). sunshinedave
Hmm....might just get a CZ afterall....does anyone know of anywhere in the UK that will paint/coat a stock in matt-black? Cheers
crieffy
How's about one of these stocks? http://www.staffs-synthetic-stocks.com/firearms.shtml Very tempted to get one on my CZ Silhouette
triscrx
All I have done to my CZ is cover it in camo tape to blend it in with my gillie suit. I wouldnt worry so much about a matt black stock. Why black anyway? Looks better now that was initially. Only £5 a roll and it comes off no probs and doesnt cause any damage to any finishes. Id recommend it

Wookie
Aye caramba! I'm really liking that CZ tactical stock! Mind you, it's a bit too early to start thinking about changing bits on my 452 Varmint. Maybe next year...
sunshinedave
Cheers guys! Well, unless I can find somewhere to get it done cheap, then I think I'll hold out and see what happens. Thing is £300 New CZ + £100 for paint or realtree, almost buys me a Sako Quad anyway! The Quads seem a bit nicer from the box, action looks better, shame they don't do a 16" heavy barrel like the CZ! I do like the look of your taped one though mate, but think I'd get it dipped just because I'm fussy! Decisions decisions, ahwell, plenty of time to chew it over until an FAC lands on my doormat anyway!

harv
MARLIN DO A BLACK SYNTHETIC IN .17 HMR
Poacher
as said get a quad in either .17 or .22 then the one you don't get will only cost £125 for a new calibre rather than another £
