bgrangeb
so pigeons are begining to find the rape a bit high for comfort they arent on the wheat but i see 100s of them all over the fields i know they are still on rape a bit - have seen them on ours but it begs the question what are they eating this time of year? henry d
Anything sprouting like clover, chickweed etc. and they seem to be on ivy berries too. Soon they will be on the young sprouting buds in the trees and hedges if they aren`t already in the south.
Cranfield
Just because the rape is high don't ignore it, they will drop into the tractor tracks on rape fields and walk in from the edges. Check for any drillings in your area and also watch the clover, that can be the food of choice at this time of year.
anser2
Still hitting the rape hard here in Norfolk , bags of 54, 68, 53, 130, 12 and 54 all off different rape fields over the last week. As I drove home tonight I saw 100s comming off rape fields and heading for the woods so i guess its out again in the morning. Some of my local farmers are pulling their hair out got gas guns \ flags\wind blades and banger strings out , but the pigeons pay little attention to them. One farmer gave me a case of shells on the way home as he reconises that shooting is the only way to scare them off the fields for at least a few days. A few birds also feeding on chick weed in winter wheat , but 90% on rape.

bgrangeb
is there such thing as too much wind? i was out today and the wind meant i couldnt reall keep a hat on.... then of course crouching to keep out of the wind my legs fall asleep and so a bird actually lands in the pattern before i can get it and flies off when it sees me struggling to stand up.... garyb
I've been watching some good numbers, sitting in tree's snacking on spring buds.
