russ91
Making homemade crow decoys is easy and inexpensive. All you need is a roll of black electrical tape and some wire clothes hangers. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to make a new one in about five minutes. Once you have your materials simply bend the clothes hangers into shapes that resemble the outline of a crow. You can try different poses to make your set look realistic. The last thing you need to do is cover your homemade crow decoys with the electrical tape. Once that is done, simply drive the straightened hook on the hanger into the ground or wrap it around a tree limb and start calling.

Ferretboy111
Very good idea, if they work that is. From my experience with crows/rooks they will see a trick, u may need to dull down the shine on the tape with something. Good luck Alex

Jonno just thinking the shine will scare the crows as a crow doesnt naturally shine.....just think on a bright summers day. it will stand out a mile ! just my opinion ! Ratman2
Just slightly off topic but still to do with decoys, set up camp on a freshly sown field of beans, put my pigeon decoys out as usual and waited. The pigeons were flocking about 300yds away and totally ignoring my decoys but for some strange reason the crows were interested, they began circling and making a right noise, I dropped one and they went berserk, I got six more before they cleared off, I’ve never had that happen before. russ91
i have always found that when the crows have flocked once you shoot one they will go berserk wondering what happened to there mate
casts_by_fly
I made up 5 of them this weekend. Took about 15 minutes and they were done. Went out last night with them and they worked pretty well. Within 15 minutes of putting them out I had crows coming in for a look. However, they were all 30-40yd high and that was the closest they came. Considering that I was sitting with the HMR 100 yd away, I didn't have a chance. I think they would be pretty good for shotgun decoying, or for making a few "magnum" silhouette decoys to go with some full bodies. Might try them out tonight with the shotgun and see how they do. Thanks, Rick
