Cranfield
I wouldn't take "new" ferrets out now, as there are lots of young in the warrens and you are likely to get a lot of lay-ups. Wait until the Autumn, they will work just as well then. You don't have to teach them anything, they hunt by natural instinct.

As Cranfield has already told you now is not a good time to get them working. There are a few things you can do to stop them baulking at the mouth of the warrens. Handle them daily, every time you feed them use a call or whistle, but only when you are going to feed them, and make it consistent. Bigbob
Nows the time to let the ferrets get some sun on there backs every thing's breeding just handle them daily checking them over for any problems and you can play with them in some pipes in the garden if your worried about them sulking at the mouth of burrows when you start going out again . new to the flock
larson, If your girls are in season you need to either have them serviced by a hob, either intact or fixed, or get them into the vets for a Jill jab. If you do nothing they will will continue to produce and store hormones in the . This will promote a condition know as pyrametria,......I believe there is a different term for it in ferrets aswell....... and will cause death. new to the flock
A Jill jab is a hormonal shot used to take the girls out of season. Price varies depending on vet, I have heard of everything from 2 pound 50 to 120 pound over there, so phone around and get some quotes. I suggest you do a site search with the word ferret and have a good read. NTTF

henry d
Try contacting the National Ferret Welfare Society and ask if they have any members with a vasectomised hob in your area that will, for a modest fee(or free) let him bring the girls out of season ! I used to have a Hob that had been snipped and he used to have great fun with many jills through the summer !!
