tinbum71
I've been given most of a box of 1 1/4 oz SG load. There are 9 shot in each cartridge. Fair enough, if 1 hits a fox in the right place its going down, but how do they perform spread wise? What choke should I use them in and what range? Or should I just blow bloody big holes in plastic bottles for a laugh with them? Your thoughts?
steve_b_wales
I have quite a few of these cartridges. The pattern is not very good, but at close range ( 20 yards ) they are brilliant. I use a three quarter choke for best results.
MK38
Try them out of a few different chokes.... you may find one that patterns better, i had an old SxS with imp/cyl that was pretty good out to about thirty yards. The chap who sold them recond they'd drop a Fox at 80 yds and recomended a tight choke ..... but i never found a gun/choke combo that could hold a group that far. The ones i had were made by Rottweil and were an 1 1/16 oz load and i thought they had 7 lead balls in them.... was a few years ago so may be wrong. They had lots of knock down power on the couple of Foxes i shot with them, but that was at close range.... but it was devistating ! Wouldn't recomend them now though... BB's to no 2's would be my current choice ..... but try them on a target first, your experiance may differ from mine . Dave
el-chimbo
i use the 9 ball on fox most of the time, out to 30 yards with a 3/4 or full choke.. the impact of these on any target is pretty massive! they do spread like wild fire, a very good round tho! i found some old SPSG 12 ball rounds last week and try'd one out yesterday on dog fox, and at 28 yards(walked it after) with a 3/4 choke with my o/u, 8 out of 12 balls hit the fox.. give them a go, like marmite, love em or hate em! deer stalker
they do spread more quicky than your normal cartridge and use the tightest choke you can xtra-full would be great.
henry d
Try a pattern test, it`s the best way, however don`t expect too much, the pattern is far too gappy.
Baldrick
I bought a load of Express 36g SG for fox, and gave up with them. Even with full choke they were useless much beyond 20 yards. I find 42g #1s (or BB) or (if you can find it) 50g AAA buck to be the best load for foxes.
mossy835
i hit a fox with one, at 15 yards and you could see the blood just spurt out where they hit.
