jonno
Hi, I have always used Eley's and Win subs without any problems but have just bought some CCI subs. About 1 in 7 is going supersonic with the associated crack that echoes round my valley scaring the pooh out of everything within a mile! I'm using a CZ with a 21inch barrel. Has anynone had this problem with CCI subs? I've seen a lot of posts saying they aren't as good as X,Y or Z but I haven't seen a post about this problem. Thanks. Wookie
That's a bit worrying. Sounds like the are both right on the edge of supersonic and inconsistant as well. Given that consistancy is the key to accuracy... How many did you get? Can you take them back?
mossy835
iv used cci for 14 years, and have had no bother with them at all.take them back
Baldrick
I have had this problem with a batch of CCIs. It annoyed the hell out of me. I used them this winter, when the cold temperature seemed to highlight how many rounds were going supersonic. I've stuck with Eley, RWS and Winchester ever since. Wookie
I'm really impressed with RWS right now. Got a packet to try out and they are noticeably tighter at 50m than the Winnies I have in bulk. Which is a shame really, but at least I know what I'm getting next.
jonno
Many thanks everyone. I didn't get them from my local supplier so it would cost more in petrol to take them back! (More than 5 miles then at todays prices ) I think I'll try RWS next time. Jonno
nforster
i have same prob with old copper coated cci subs, and remington- using a 14"anschutz- i think barrel length can affect muzzle velocity??
njc110381
I've used about 500 rounds of CCI subs in my 10/22. None so far have been sonic. You've probably just bought a bad batch
charadam
Jonno, I use a lot of CCI subs and will soon have to restock. Any chance you could post the batch number? Thanks.
Paul223
It's all to do with air temp and pressure, as this will dictate the speed at which the bullet breaks the sound barrier, cool, dense and even damp air can effect it as much as 50 to 60fps, add this to the extreme spread, which in itself is most likely averaging around the 1100fps mark from cci and the odd crack is inevitable Out of interest and from memory the rws leaves the muzzle at around 1000fps, so well under the super sonic crack territory, been trying some recently, seem a quality round, my only gripe being the 'wet' wax. I tested the following subs recently Winchester old stock Winchester new stock RWS Remington CCI Lapua Aquila The only one of these cartridges that went supersonic was the cci The most accurate was the Lapua
The Burpster
After trying all the brands and types that I could get hold of in subsonic, I've settled on a diet of Lapua (only) for Finnfire. And RWS for the 10/22. tried some Winies recently and 30% of them went supersonic.... :yp:
plinker
cci are **** dont bother with them, rws are a good round in german barrels :yp: and eley are good if you have a cz
charadam
"cci are ****" Whoa! All my .22 rimfires are zeroed for CCI subs - and have been for 15 years or more. Now, I know I can't hit a barndoor from inside the barn, but I have NEVER had one go supersonic on me, which was the subject of the post. But thanks for your advice! njc110381
CCI was the only ammo I managed to feed my 10/22 without it jamming up. Eley is bloody awful, as are a few of the others. I find CCI very good, winnies second. I've only been shooting since the new version of the CCI arrived, which may be why I don't write them off so quickly. I've been told that they used to be shockingly bad, but recently have improved. That's from the mouth of a chap at South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies, and if they don't know their 10/22s who does? Try the newer ones without the copper coating, they're great
speedystu
Must agree on that cci are ****e, just brought 400 and the fist 20/30 from the batch wont eject if unfired, the head is very slightly wider thus a tight fit in the barrel......... winchester subbies all day!! I think the batch number is J11N10 - this is overprinted on the label on the bottom of the box. Jonno
dunganick
Ive found cheap ammo quite often will have a fast one or two in there. Its cheap cci tat, its what you expect. Buy a quality round. Its not like its expensive stuff.
