PUSC
Hi all thought id drop a quick post on here to mention a league that will be set up next uni year 08/09. it will most likely involve south-western uni's and will welcome guest teams from local 6thforms and colleges. it will consist of sporting targets and will held at a range of grounds over the course of the year. if you are interested in entering a team please contact me and i can provide more details at a later date. we also have a few facebook pages/groups that contain relevant discussion on the topic details (at present) you need a 4 man team or 4 woman. be able to shoot around 100 sporting targets with the option of a flush/flurry as well. be able to travel to a shooting ground to shoot and then party like hell after! alex
cubix
There are are a few Alumni here, but I doubt many freshmen. The seniors will be in clubs and will know about it already - probably not via here. Still - good luck with it - nice to know there is a proshooting lobby in our HE Institutions. Bet you and the Uni Animal Rights Association don't have a join xmas knees up! Edited June 3, 2008 by cubix
PUSC
nice! you'd be suprised how many people in uni dont know that they have a club lol i picked up about 5 members for next year who didnt realise that my club even existed (shows the amount of recognition given to the uni shooting championships doesnt it ...) and we were in clay shooter i think... nvamind. but a few have said they've seen us in the cpsa affiliated section, then again as they say "if you dont look you dont find"

PUSC
Met up with Bristol the other day and they are interested to compete as well. said they'd pass the message on to Bath as they shoot together some times.
Highlander
Try publishing in the student rag, if they'll let you. How about some articles (in the rag) about live quarry shooting...that should stir the pot! No pun intended. clayman
The CPSA has an active 6th form league, and may well be interested in supporting Uni clubs into this as well. Barry Gibbs of the Sandwich Shooting School is the force behind the schools leaque. Uni clubs can already associate with the CPSA, and therefore have the benefit of CPSA website listings, insurance schemes etc. Contact Paul Rendall at CPSA HQ on 01483 485 403 for Barry's details. Association's forms are downloadable from the CPSA site at www.cpsa.co.uk Clayman
PUSC
yeah we fork out for the cpsa thing at the momment but in my opinion it really does do sod all for us. yes bristol uni do have a team been going a few years now nice bunch of lads/ladies any1 wants more info pm me as its easier to keep an eye on whats going on
paulos
I think 100 sporting may be a little too much for a team event, 50 bird would be more manageable. For 100 you would need access to a larger number of stands - more marker/trappers etc. Also the extra costs involved with clays and cartridges. Teal
Just graduated from oxford who don't have a club. I am doing a masters at cirencester next year who do have a club. Not sure what level, will find out soon enough.
PUSC
any and all will be welcome if u wanna shoot solo or as a team. once we finalise a cost with newnham we will get an email / call out to everyone who wants in and say the costs. 50 birds is ok, but personally id want more than 5 stands in operation to warrant a fair crack at most types of target. dno what u guys r thinking on that1. alexm
This sounds like a great idea! I was president of Bristol Uni Clay Pigeon Club back in 1997 and it was already well established for a good few years even back then, great to know they are still going. There is a national championship competition organised through BUSA each year which was hosted by various Uni's/Colleges. Cambridge University hosted it one year, and they also hosted a few annual invitational shoots. They are probably outside your intended aread but assuming they are still as active as they were back then it might be worthwhile contacting them for advise on arranging such events. As Teal says, Cirencester Agricultural College have a club too, we used to shoot against them occasionally. They have their own ground too (or at least they did 10 years ago!). Ferret Master
Hi PUSC. It won't apply to me for 2 years but for the 6th form league do the teams have to be 4 men or 4 women rather than a mixture? As I do believe my present year group will be able to muster up a team then. (only year 10 atm). FM

PUSC
Hi PUSC. As I do believe my present year group will be able to muster up a team then. (only year 10 atm). FM tbh i think if your a 6thform as we have been asked by milfield to allow a few 6thform teams enter there will be no problem. at the momment we take a team of 4 male or female and then group the leagues. make sure u guys got some insurance tho. i do know on the other hand that my old secondary school do shoot (as i bloody well set the club up wid the headmaster) and so if you want a friendly vs Beechen Cliff School you should get your P.E master or whoever coaches you guys to contact them and arrange a colts friendly. im currently at bicton college of agriculture in devon.we do have a club, and we shoot at a inter agricultural college clay shampionships every year(came third this year). im sure we would be interested in it. would it be possible to enter more then one teams. at the one we go to already, u can enter one competing team, and another who can shoot but doesnt compete as such. yeah sure mate we enter a total of 4 male teams and 1 female in our championships every year and there will be the championship (1st teams vs other 1st teams) and Trophy (2nd teams and lower vs other 2nd teams and lower) as well as a female championship. this is as long as we get the anticipated up take on the comp as per interest shown so far if not there no reason why a team could go birds only if it wished hope this helps a bit
GBS
Sounds like a good idea. I used to run the Reading Uni Clay Pigeon Club a couple of years ago, we use to have semi regular matches against Ciren and Bristol but something more organised would be great. The Reading Club has grown massivley over the past few years and had about 40 odd members last year. Will you PM me your contact details and i'll pass them on to the current president. Hmmm....... the BUSA shooting nationals at Hodnet...............£14k of entrance fees last year and ****** all prizes....... only my thoughts... gb
PUSC
they even reduced the amount shot on the final flush to 50 insted of 100 which took the **** but the uni forked out comp fees so we didnt bitch for cash back. lol
paulos
Thats very true in relation to entry costs, but if it weren't for the amount that BUSA rake in from it every year then I doubt whether they would have anything to do with it at all. The flush this year was cut down to 50 bird just to accommodate the large numbers that entered, perhaps a thought for the future may be to have separate layouts for the sporting/flush for the championship and trophy teams? Simply to alleviate some of the queuing and get everyone finished in good time.

George1990
Will be going to Southampton Uni on the 28th of September, but I think they only have a rifle club unless Clay pigeons aren't listed in that book. Hopefully they do or I can start one so I can join the competition
PUSC
i remember that south had a chap shooting singles (rather than a team comp) who always does very well. big lad blonde hair cant quite remember his name but he will be on the busa list of results for last year. get hold of the chap as he is very experienced and a good shot more than welcome to take a drive and come down shooting wid us at some point as well
