feeding - when and how often

Recommended Posts

I am sure that there is a million right and wrongs for this,

I feed my springer once in the morning after his walk and once in the evening before his walk.

The only reason he gets fed twice is that if I give him his whole daily ammount in one go he will scoff it down and then promptly throw it all back up.

as said a lot depends on the dog, mine has ad lib food put down in the morning and she picks on it through the day. As she doesn't have a weight problem I find it makes them less obsessed about food so you don't get the scoffing down of as much as you put down and over eagerness whenever food is about. I've done this with the last few dogs and its worked well but you do have to start it off from a puppy.

I feed my dog twice a day with two and a half mug fulls of dry dog food in each meal usually an hour before or after his walks.

My dog gets a lot of excerise but if I see him getting to fat I reduce the amount of food in each meal.

Df

i agree with method. Quantity depends on breed. Also more food when working.

im a dog handler and all the dogs get split feeds either twice or three times a day, being split fed helps ease digestion, also a short walk about half an hour after a feed helps with digestion. its not advisable too feed after exercise as some breeds are likely to get a twisted gut.
