Topgunners
On my way to work yesterday morning I spotted a large flock of pigeons flighting over the main road into a part cut rape field and diverted off route to do a bit of door-knocking to find out who owned the field. After a number of failures I finally found out who the farmer was and asked him if I could help sort out the pigeons that were batttering his rape. He said he didn't have a problem with that but I would need to speak to the landowner for their permission. When he told me who it was, I remembered that I had asked about 2 1/2 years ago but was declined by the lady in question. I drove to her house and this time she couldn't say yes quick enough. Delighted with the response I decided to finish early and then dashed home to get my gear and arrived back about 2.00pm and 400+ birds lifted off the field as I drove to the spot I had chosen for my hide. I set up just in front of a pond and after I had shot my first 2 birds I put out the magnet and the birds just kept coming over the distant trees. One after another dropped even during the rain , and I ended up with 107 shot and a very knackered dog .(very humid) I picked up the birds and went back to the house to tell her how I had done and asked her if she wanted any pigeons. She said she hadn't had Pigeon since her husband died and used to enjoy them. I offered to breast a few for her and she invited me in to the house and I swiftly did a dozen nice shot-free breasts for her ( no dirty remarks, thank you, LB,Mung etc.). She thanked me profusely and then told me she was away on holiday friday and could I watch her place (and fields) for her whilst she was away. I said I would, and thanked her for the opportunity and told her I would be back at the week-end. Result or what? Dave-G
Darn good result Dave. Chris and I are getting very good permission results down Cornwall at the moment - I stumbled on a real bunny hotspot and the farmer(s) have been telling their friends They seem well impressed with Chris's 'jeep - which really looks the part. Cranfield
Nice result Dave K and almost a blueprint on how to get (and keep) permissions. Perseverence and respect are two of the main things you need.
