malkiserow
Nice one Where did you get that Hedgehog decoy from  shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the hedgehog is the next deadly pigeon shooter accessory must have. Bargain at £50 a pair. Moreover its legs actually move with a very realistic motion that really pulls those sky rats in. DEADLY  BTW well done on the shooting!! bob300w
OK, It's going to happen anyway, so I'll start it off; What shot size, calibre etc for hedgehogs? Are headshots with a 17 OK? Are they on the open licence,? Do they need to be on your FAC or are they vermin?
Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
well done on the pigeons Would have thought a minimum of .308 for hedgehogs, and you must have passed hedgehog stalking certificate 1 + 2 +3 before you can apply for the .308

If you are being charged by siad Hedgehog you need to cover your self from a legal standpoint by shouting "It's coming right for us" before discharging both barrels of your .470 nitro express double rifle, which I believe is the weapon of choice for such quarry. Yes, I understand the bit about the warning, much as the Lone Ranger always said to his trusty sidekick, when being charged by 15,000 screaming Indians "Here they come Tonto, we are in for a fight". Usually followed by a response from Tonto along the lines of "What you mean, 'WE' whiteman?". However my concern is whether to use soft nose or solids in the 470, also do you consider that a 500 grainer at 2,150 FPS sufficient for the job? after all, 5,140 ft.lbs is not a great deal against one of these man-eaters. I was thinking more along the lines of an Escort 3" in 600 NE, with a brace of Gats as back-up. Edited August 7, 2008 by bob300w

I was thinking more along the lines of an Escort 3" in 600 NE, with a brace of Gats as back-up. Personally if I was staring down the barrel at one of these monsters I would be looking for rapid expansion from my 500grainers so I would go soft nose everytime. The rule of thumb with these beasts seems to be that, you take a gun and ammo combo that can down a charging bull hippo and then get something bigger, so I'm with you on the 600NE! Glad you mentioned the back up gats, from a health and safety standpoint your guide will be obliged to carry a loaded gat at all times in case a followup shot is required, remember these things have spikes that are not to be messed with. Ferret Master
No idea but I know the gypsies smother them in clay then bake them in a fire. Poor little spikey chaps are declining quite a bit around here, I blame badgers and the motorcar among other things. FM
