Pushkin
Hi folks, just wanting to check with other owners to see what they think is the best deal for dog insurance at present Tried this over in the dog section and had plenty of views but so far no comments - any takers for giving me some advice? The dog will be a worker -hopefully - if I can get the training right Pushkin.
stokie
Got my lab insured with More Than . We have never had any problems with claims and yes we have had a few. You settle the vets bill and he fills in a claim form and they send you a cheque normally within 7 days. Premium is £9 a month . £70 excess Hope that helps

perfect
im with tesco at the minute for about 10 pound a month but they only cover so much money per incident for a set amount of time, if your pet gets a reoccurring injury they wont keep paying out, also they wont pay out if they know he was injured on farm land or from live stock ect. Pet plan is recommended by my vet but its twice the money per month. Edited August 16, 2008 by perfect
Cranfield
There have been a few threads on this subject, this is probably the best one. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...l=pet+insurance I would not insure my dog through Petplan if it was the last insurance company in the world. PUSC
tesco for me. but heard that some companies will even offer pet therapy, under the insurance so if your dog has a behavioural problem it can be funded to be trained out of it. lol

Pushkin
Folks - a big thanks to you all for all the responses and comments - good or bad - about the insurers. I'm looking through some of their offerings just now so with some luck, will have the pup insured fairly soon. Pushkin
ziplex
Make sure you get 'insured for life' within your cover. I have to admit that Petplan of late seem to sting thier customers more than they used to it seems, but having said that I had to put through some horrendously high claims for my two late Springers and there was never a problem....ever. The old girl was on medication for years, perhaps equating to £100+ amonth and they dutifully paid out every time....without problem. Only when she became 10 yrs plus did we have to pay towards her medication, I have a feeling it was 20%. Petplan are not the cheapest but they have always been honest and helpful. My remaining Springer and a GSP are both with them as I don't forsee any problems with any claims I may have to make.
Glenshooter
I have a natural dislike of insurers - read too many weekend paper money sections to see how they wriggle out of paying a genuine claim. I put £20 a month into a saving account by DD for my dog's insurance, also when I am encouraged to take out insurance on a new kitchen appliance etc - I say no, but put the same amount of money into the savings account. When I hire a car, as I need to do for personal reasons every 6 weeks or so, I decline the £10 per day excess reducer and put the £30 or so into the same account. Have had no claims over the last 18 months or so and the 'fund' is now at £1500! Not foolproof of course, you need to be disciplined and if there is a large bill for your dog, then you could be out money but I still think this 'self-insure' idea is worth it. Pushkin
Guys - for those of you with Healthy Pets - are you aware they do not cover any pets whilst they are working? Thank you for your e-mail. We do not cover any pets whilst they are working. Regards Debbie Healthy Pets Reply I received today from them.
