strudwick
Hi all, Steve and I went shooting on Saturday around 2pm went shooting in a bean stubble field . I have been shooting pigeons for quite some time now and never see much activity over beans before and dont really think of them as being a real attraction for pigeons , has any one else had much success on beans they look like they would be nice easy food for a wood pigeons as you can see from the pics. There were lots of pigeons but was a bit shy and not willing to come in as the evening went on they started to come in around 4pm evening is defiantly the best time for pigeons. We shot 52 overall. ... Any comments in shooting over beans I would be interested to hear Edited September 29, 2008 by strudwick

charlie 1
beans are quite a serious crop. with the exception of this year which was rubbish due to a very late harvest beans and rape are the main feed for pigeons. have shot lots of pigeons over beans and can be the best crop to shoot over. but i find it is only standing beans just before its cut or bean stubble you won't shoot much over bean shoots. this is just what i have found over the years. seisobs
I had a day with ************ 4 weeks ago, Mark set me up on a field of standing beans under some pine trees at the corner of the field, the pigeons were coming in pretty good to the decoy's, I had the magnet out too but they seemed to flare away from it, Mark removed it and they came in a lot better. Had a great day and shot 54, It should have been 154 but as it was only my 5th or 6th outing I am a pretty S - - - E shot, need more practice on the clays. It was interesting to see a massive combine harvester working in the next field. It didn't put them off one bit.

Cranfield
It could be different areas, different bean types, or how much alternative food the birds have access to, but I have never had much success over beans in Kent.
