Do a trip to Ireland after Pike each year and fish the Midlands reservoirs for Trout in UK. Don't do that much coarse fishing here now as the cormorants have decimated the silver fish and I'm not that bothered about fishing day ticket lakes for dopey old carp.

2 years back, fishing a Lough in Southern Ireland we had a massive bag of pike to 27lb 14 ozs including 5 twenties !!!!!!!!. Never expect to achieve that again and I doubt it's been done many times in recent years.

Sea Fishing from the rocks off Cornwall and South Coast is my favourite. Do a bit of Boat fishing from Poole in the summer months, but only with the lads as a social thing rather than on my own.

Sometimes when the Premier League football is on, or something really big like Queens Jubilee, me and the missus go and camp and fish on the beach, all night in Poole as an excuse to get away from it.

You just can't beat fishing in the middle of the night, in pitch blackness, in Poole Harbour watching the Special Boat Squadron Marines (Water-based SAS) trying to do secret training dives! Ha ha. There is no-one around for miles, they think they are alone, and me and the missus just find it hilarious that they think they are invisible!

TB

I heard from a reliable source that those bad boys in the black swimming costumes  managed to drop a Barrat light 50 in to pool Harbour!!! :o   ???

B4 every one dons their diving outfits it was about 96 this happend so there wont be much left of the rifle, it was never recoverd.???

Sea fishing is my bag, after longnetting, ferreting and lamping. The moon is my ally, when it's big and bright {summerish time} and there is a high tide near to midnight it's BASS time, When there is no moon, it's longnetting time. I know exactly how heavy each fish is without weighing it, HOW? = they all have their own scales! I told a girl at work that I once saw a dogfish chasing a catfish around Seaford bay and she really was very concerned about the dogfish hurting the catfish! I once fished with a one armed bloke for several seasons, boy, did he have trouble describing the size of the one that got away! Joking apart though, Portslade, on the outskirts of Brighton is a good place for catching Bass on a good tide! My own personal best is a ten pounder, but I believe the local record stands at around seventeen pounds, that was caught by a Vietnamese bloke from a local restaraunt about two years ago! I admit that I'm not a devotee of new fangled gear, I never make anything more complicated than it needs to be, simple rigs, simple baits, they work for me more often than not. I use mackerel, lug, squid, local peeler crab and hermit crab, boy do they stink, but they seem to attract the fish. For eels I use a small lead weight, a small barbless coarse fish hook and a small amount of sqid or a live shrimp, I just love jellied or smoked eel, lead me to them, yummy! most of my workmates say I'm mad releasing the Bass after catching them, but I prefer to catch them on camera these days, eels as I said, come home with me and are soon in the smoker. There's a final thought, if smoking is so bad for you, how come it cure's kippers?

I,ve fished and shot for many years, tried it all, coarse, sea, game and had a lot of success and enjoyment along the way.

It's nice to see so many shooting men fish as well as shoot. On a fly fishing forum I visit (I would put in a link but don't know how) this was raised recently and the thread soon got to the subject of banning hunting, shooting and fishing, you would not believe how many said they could ban shooting for all they cared as long as they left fishing alone, obviously never heard of united we stand divided we fall.

If anybody posts how to add a link, I will.

Can't get into that carp fishing lark, big beasties maybe but in this country all the big fish are known by name !!, what's all that about

My mate gave up Pike fishing to go carping a few years back, went to see how he was getting on and it was amazing to see all the guys lined up like clones on the lake side. My mate takes a spare chair for "visitors" and even wears cammo underwear !!!. Can't catch a carp without the latest lead core helicopter anti fungus rig using fruit and smeg flavoured boilies popped up over a bed of trout pellets and hemp. Really pi**ed them off when I got out a battered old fibreglass rod, Mitchell 300 reel and started catching on floating dog biscuits. Was wearing ordinary jeans and no face mask either. Not a Delkim in my tackle box.

Before you ask I don't still believe in bleeding as a cure for most common ailments. I fish for reservoir trout so not totally against the synthetic approach, not a purist either as I like catching big 'Bows deep down using the Northampton style of fishing, deadly at Draycote and when it had some decent, parasite free fish, Rutland.

carp fishing doesnt have to be like that!

my best carp (17lb) was caught floating bread on the surface free-lining!

I dont use specialist gear or anything like that, you dont have to buy all the expensive baits either. I make all my own bait and it works a treat. Cant beat the old lucheon meat cubes and sweetcorn. People think you gotta have the latest rod and baitrunner to catch carp, you dont. Just experience of the water you are fishing on is all thats needed.

You cant beat watching that jaws style mouth come up and suck in the floating bread, quick jerk of the rod and away you go!!
