ciltalgarth
Well my first day on the pheasants went really well if you could call it a day. The day that was booked was a 250 bird day and was to be 4 pheasant drives, lunch, then 2 partridge drives in the afternoon. But the first drive went that well that we killed 93 and the second drive just as good, (and was told that it was the best it had ever gone) we managed 148. With us killing 241 off the first 2 drives and the guns ecstatic over them, they were happy to extend the bag to 300 so for the rest of the day we did two partridge drives giving us a 310 finish. I WAS A RELLY HAPPY KEEPER Edited November 4, 2008 by ciltalgarth

Fatcatsplat
Did they charge you extra for the additional 60? Went on one recently where we were going like the clappers in the morning and really had to slow down for the afternoon to make sure we got the last couple of drives in - Managed to go 17 over without charge. Cranfield
Congratulations, you must have been very pleased. I have attended a few Shoots where the result wasn't as good as expected, for factors (usually weather) beyond the Keepers control, but they are the ones who get it in the neck. Nice to hear a good story for a change.
al4x
nice to hear it going well, days like that fill me with horrific memories of driven days and finding one gun is being greedy and not picking good birds that said this bit of hard weather we have had has helped no end
tomtommckinnon
congrats! 155 brace is a good days shooting.
Bleeh
As you're a keeper, you must follow proper shooting etiquette now. You never say ''killed'' when it comes to the amount of shot birds, You can say ''we got X birds, we bagged x birds'' and so on, but it's just not considered cricket to say ''we killed''. But, either way, Congraulations!
Stillsy
to be honest, days like these really dont do it for me....! Its days like that dont give hunting a great name. Would much prefer a 100 bird day where its all about enjoying the social, and shooting some high sporting birds. Anyone can shoot a pheasant when its 20ft off the floor. Its easy to justify that 100 birds shared between 20 beaters and 10 guns, and the rest to the local pub will be used but 310? Really is there the need? Im glad u managed a good day, but for a first day with a target of 250 its hardly surprising!
al4x
of course the birds may have all been good birds just with a good team of guns. I know its easier to shoot good birds when you have plenty of them and can get your eye in so to speak. Its 30 birds per gun if there were 10 guns, shooting 30 pigeons would only be an average day to the average pigeon shooter so where is the difference. Apart from the depth of pockets of course

Im glad u managed a good day, but for a first day with a target of 250 its hardly surprising! Days like these probably don't do it for you as you are still a young boy and probably have never experienced days like that, and as for it giving hunting a bad name you are no different from me in killing 100 birds. I don't know how you can say the birds were 20ft off the floor with out being here to see them ( but that would be difficult as you would be classed as one of those that gives hunting a bad name) the shoot in which i am taking about has been classed to be in the top ten high bird shoots in Scotland. All the game is advertised locally free to anyone who wishes to pick up a couple of brace and also is served in the estate pub, hotel and farm shop. the rest goes to a game dealer. It is also nice that these days are still on going and that i have broke estate records of over 380 bird days. I'm sure that if a day like this was offered to you free of charge (which they all are the estate owner gets return invites) you would not take up the offer. DaveK
beware the green eyed monster T. Get some tablets for that at the LGI STD clinic Mark. :good: As for the low flying fessies, I think it's been said so I'll not bother. What's wrong with 300 bird days, especially when some are given freely to the locals? Like Claude Bivvy said :o
