Psyxologos
Hi everyone. I joined BASC a week or so ago and today I got my 'welcome pack' through the post. It consisted of a generic letter saying that BASK offer the BEST (they stressed that three times) in shooting, a magazine, one pin, one fabrick stitch on for a jacket, a sticker for my car and a couple of leaflets with some useful numbers, insurance details and game season information. Oh, I forgot. I also received a 'members' wallet' with some illustrated cards on the inside. Is this all they send out? What about a membership card? I thought we get one of those to carry around when shooting. Am I missing something? Please help!

It's only card so not that robust. Nial.
David BASC
The membership card is a pop out below the insurance info / season info. The insurance section also has your name, address, membership number and local office number on it. It is designed to fit into you shotgun or firearm certificate The card folds in two to make a 'credit card' size which then fits into you members wallet. Hope that helps. but let me know if there is anything more I can do to help. David
Baldrick
David, when will BASC distribute plastic membership cards, as the GWCT has done for decades, for its much smaller membership base? I always tear open my renewal pack in the hope that BASC has joined the developed world, and ditched the clingfilm-covered Rizla that masquerades as a membership card. Maybe next year! CEREALTHRILLER
I laminate mine so it doesn't get damaged
Highlander
Baldrick FYI plastic cards especially with sequential numbering on cost a small fortune and I for one would prefer that BASC spent their income on the main matter. The paper one only stays inside your wallet anyway so no real 'wear 'n tear' problem there.
David BASC
The plan is to introduce one in 2010, the cost of plastic has been an issue- until recently the cost was 2-3x that of the laminated card we offer now, not only because of the production cost (materials) but also the data matching. For very small runs of say less than 1000 a month there is little difference between the cost of plastic and paper - get to runs of over 10,000 a month (as we do) then plastic has been costly - until now. Prices are falling so it looks like plastic soon for BASC. David
Baldrick
That's a valid point, Highlander. But a possibility of membership card nirvana from David.....
jonevo
David for very minimalistic costs you can get a self sealing laminated card cover, used for ID.badges these seem to work ideal,Many organisations and Blue chip companies use them. Surely for what members are paying in subs a very miniscule penny wont do any harm, probably the cost of leaving your computer on overnight
David BASC
It is not so much the coast of materials it is the cost of personalization and matching the personalized card to the personalized carrier. Not withstanding ths, adding even a low cost self seal for the existing card could still mount up when I have to send out over 130,000 of them a year! webber
You could not spoili it for me if you tried, but you have fun trying Thanks. Your posts and those of a few other BASC bashers have certainly kept me entertained for several days. It now looks like you've seen the light so to speak. I accept that BASC is not for you, and thats fair enough. webber

Psyxologos
Thanks for your replies everyone. David, is that you who signs the welcome letter? If so, please include something else in there apart from praise for BASC. Reading the welcome letter gave me no information whatsoever, and it felt as if I was reading an advertisement. Well, I have already joined, so how about the welcome letter providing an overview of what the welcome pack includes, where is what, what I can expect from BASC, a suggestion I read the rule book included etc. I think this would have been more helpful and interesting to a new member. Instead of that I got a few paragraphs from BASC praising..... well, BASC .
