Permission at first attempt

Hi all,

Having read the frustrations that some folks have had getting permission I was rather daunted by the prospect of trying for myself...

Had a day off Friday, and arriving at the clayground an hour before it opened, doh, I found myself needing to kill an hour.

Decided to drive around for a bit and see how the woodies were hitting the fields in the general area.

Came across quite a few fields of rape that were getting hammered. Approached a farm and let the truck out that was exiting, followed it down the road for a bit then the guy jumped out and looked to be getting a gun out the back. Sure enough, field to the right thick with woodies ;)

Wound down my window and asked the guy "need any help with them woodies mate?" - anyways to cut a long story short, got # of farmer and phoned him this morning. Turns out they are having a real bad time this year on the three farms the guy runs, several hundered acres in total.

They seemed more than happy with letting me have a go, he made it clear that it's not a long term commitment and for vermin only, but it looks like I've secured something for the coming year. Hopefully I'll be able to build on it.

Well happy  Thanks to others for sharing their advice and experiences and to anyone out there struggling getting a break I'd just recommend driving round until you find places getting hit hard and grab any opportunity that presents itself.

It gets even better - met the farmer today and had a walk around two of the farms with him. Turns out part of the permission is cleared for deer, so with a bit of luck these sites could pave the way for my FAC approval in the next few months :good:

Now have permission of myself plus one guest (it's my mates that are the lucky ones!) and it sounds like I'll be able to take my GSP with me when he's old enough too ( a fair way off yet as he's only 8 days old ).

Need to find out what his (farmer) favourite tipple is before Crimbo

Cheers!
