Dave-G
Despite what many members will and have told us, some are convincing themselves about what they have and we all know how perfect the item we purchased is right? Think of the SAK as doing £30~£35's worth of explosion silencing. Almost anything significantly more expensive is quieter than a SAK but you wont get rid of the sonic crack. I'm not saying the SAK is **** - but it is a budget silencer. I have used a SAK, and experimented with another by trying different internal baffles - which produced very good results but I couldn't sort out the corrosion effects of mixing alloy with steel, and now use an ASE Ultra which I'm very happy with at about £55~£60. paul300779
Hello, I have DM80's on both my sako's, (.22 & .17hmr), they are both fantastic!, I have tried lots of different mods and these are definately the best (in my opinion), so buy buy buy !!! raymondbacon
Hi I have a DM 80 on a .17 HMR CZ, just can't use it at night for shooting, it's so loud it would wake the dead. Have a .22 Sako and is whisper quiet with a SAK. On the post there is mention of "DM80 old type miles better" does this mean the new type is no good, really disappointed, waste of £100. Dunkield
I have never heard anyone with a bad word to say about DM80's - so that is unusual. IMO SAK's are .22 moderators (which they do good job at silencing) obviously they can be used on HMR's but I wouldn't expect them to silence in the way a dedicated HMR mod would. al4x
try a shot with the HMR at close range into soft ground for instance and even with the SAK it is pretty much as quiet as a .22lr. Simply because you don't get the sonic crack over distance that is what makes the noise. That you can't do anything about so personally its probably more re-assuring to think your expensive mod works much better.
Deako
raymondbacon, I take it you DO realise you cannot stop the supersonic crack of the HMR? You are ALWAYS going to get a 'bang' with any round travelling at supersonic speeds, but if you stand to one side of a moderated rifle when it is being fired, the sound will be MUCH reduced at the muzzle. What did Dave say when you phoned him?
raymondbacon
Thanks for your replies, I realise that it is a supersonic round and will make a crack as it breaks the sound barrier. I tried a "swift" £60 moderator and it was much better. The mod wasn't a half over barrel model like the DM80, but all in front of the barrel so made the gun longer but it was quieter. I was sold the DM by decoying who talked it up that it was really quiet and the best on the market, all in all disappointed that I can't use the .
