goodshot
happy new year to all what do you think of eley maximum 34grms in 7's for pigeons or your experiences
lancashireunter
I prefare 6's or 5's for pigeon. Was given a load of eley maximum in larger shot sizes years ago and found em great for ducks etc. no probs at all with em. Thats quite a large load of sevens isnt it? Give em a try. Ferret Master
Anything shot at closish range will have alot of lead in it. FM
mikee
They will kick like hell, if your shooting them all day through anything other than an auto you'll wish you'd bought 28-30g mikee

MerseaDavid
I always use 6 shot 32g for shooting pigeons and I find that this works well. I have used 7 shot 34g Maximums on pigeons but was not too impressed, they kicked hard and did not seem to kill them consistantly but then it was probably down to me, as the saying goes dont blame the cartridge, blame the shooter. It is worth trying them because you might like them, I have tried many different make, shot sizes and grms and there were 2 makes that I like using and they are hull's Special pigeon 6 shot 32g and Eley hawks best pigeon 6 shot 32g. These are both 70mm cases and plastic wad.
paulos
I've no doubt that 34g 7s will kill ok. But you will be pooping lead pellets out for ages
Whitebridges
The Eley maximum Bismuth load in 4's are good on duck. Can't see any circimstances to use 34g of 7's, High flying roding 'cock or fast departing snipe maybe? But even then they are likely to be out of range. If you're flighting high pigeon use maximun in a 5 perhaps? Otherwise its 30 or 32g of 6's. Edited January 2, 2009 by Whitebridges
goodshot
thanks for the above, the reason i was asking at the moment im using d & j game 32 6's plastic wad and im hitting birds with them but arent getting the kill, only at about 40 yard range, was trying to find something harding hitting, will being going through semi thanks
tazkb
couple of points to look at 1: the speed of the cartridge 2: shot size big shot = more energy at longer range given the same velocity I have used a few and quite like the No:5's in 34g i think they run at 1375 fps they certainly retain some power but on days when the pigeons are 100ft and above it's still hard to drop em

henry d
............. but arent getting the kill, only at about 40 yard range............ Sorry to say, but the problem isn`t the gun/cartridge, it`s you. At that range you should kill, cleanly and fairly consistently, with 32gm no.6`s.
