lister1
i'm looking to buy a gun i was shooting with cheap 12b o/u but couln't hit anything with it, i had a few shots with my mates beretta and was shooting fine but since i only have a cheap buget i wondered if it was worth trying a sbs. what you think? GJUK
O/U are meant to be 'easier' to hit things with. Jon
the-12bore-kid
Buy yourself a cheap s/h beretta 687 O/U theres plenty on guntrader, ive got both a sbs and a o/u and to be honest the side by side never gets used.
parislondonparis
I am in the same situation. On a budget, but I just love the look of a side by side. Over and unders are a lot cheaper though. I have no experience shooting side by sides. Are they really more difficult to use? Thanks, Vincent

jimdfish
I prefer the sxs but for aesthetic purposes only. I shoot equally as badly with both but if I had to have one it would be the sxs. Jim
ironduke
Ive got and shoot both. I was "brought up" on a ou and have done all my clay shooting with it, however i always use my sbs for rough shooting. I prefer the look of my sbs, i think as a rule they are far better looking guns than an ou. I cant say i shoot better with one or t'other though really....equally awful!! GJUK
but I just love the look of a side by side. Over and unders are a lot cheaper though. I've found it the other way around. SXS's are cheap, OU's are more expensive. J
Edward
Go for a sbs..... only reason they are more traditional
sharpshot
Its what your comfortable with that counts. i started with o /u but found it much easier and more natural with a s /s. i use my s /s for everything but that is what feels best for me
lister1
i'm thinking maybe a sbs but are they ok for clays? i've only ever shot clays with a o/u. i do prefer the feel of a sbs when out rough shooting game but i'm looking to do more with decoying pigeons this year, i suppose it makes no diffrernce what you shoot as long as your comfortable. Supersonic
Cost isn't an issue. I got a S/H AYA Yeoman sbs double trigger n/e for £100 Bought it to take out in bad weather (instead of semi-auto or tasty O/U) and it is now my firm favourite in the cabinet and gets more outings than the others Nige (for rough shooting and clays) Edited January 8, 2009 by Supersonic
utectok
I started with an sxs couldn't hit a barn changed to an OU and got on much better it's mostly about gun fit I'm sure but I think that an OU is more instinctivly pointable and it's not the gun of choice by compitition shooters by accident. Edward
I used an sbs on clays before I got my escort, there is nowt wrong with an sbs for clays
humperdingle
Doesn't really matter too much whether it's a SBS or O/U. Most important thing is that it fits you well, and you can hit targets with it. Not much point in having an aesthetically pleasing gun that you can't hit a barn door with! utectok
I know a guy that shoots perfect scores DTL with a Sxs but I think there are few who would argue that. Most comp. Shooters opt for ou. But fit and confidence are key in mho.
tazkb
the reality is that an o/u will be easier to learn with by 90% of people, but a semi will make learning even easier than the o/u in many ways. if you shop around you should find a half decent gun for say £350 of any type. If your struggling at clays book yourself some lessons, you will thank yourself in the long run
sharpshot
i'm thinking maybe a sbs but are they ok for clays? i've only ever shot clays with a o/u. i do prefer the feel of a sbs when out rough shooting game but i'm looking to do more with decoying pigeons this year, i suppose it makes no diffrernce what you shoot as long as your comfortable. you'll get a few funny looks at the clay ground but it dosent matter its not the gun its the bloke behind it that counts . S/S are fine for clay shooting its because theres less recoil in an o/u and that makes shooting it a lot at clays more comfortable. Like i said before its what feels right to you
marcyboy
I couldn't decide what to go for so I bought one of each...on a very small budget, a Spanish SxS & a Baikal O/U
