I am in me forties and getting ready to buy my first ever shotgun [12g] , basically for woodpigeon , i need something with a bit of recoil as i have a bad right shoulder having had a number of operations on it over the years and it wont take too much hammer , i think anyway , my price range is up to £500 any suggestions on what gun might be suitable or guns .

cheers

hello m8 ..escort hatsan 12 g or 20 g semi auto's

i have a 12 gauge hatsan escort wood .. a 20 g synth wood my 14 yr old shoot's them both virtualy no recoil even with 32 g 6 's i use 30 g 6's could shoot them all day no problem's . at the clay ground with 24 g 8 's . it's like shooting an air gun no recoil ,,,,,and now fitted with the new recoil reduction pad aswell ......one of the plus side's to this is you get a 3 year no quibble guarentee , 5 choke's , 28 inch or 30 inch . also in .either wood , grass , oak , syn wood , camo .....

Hi Newto,

Like Fishleigh said, lanber make great o&u's. For the money IMHO there's nothing better.

Get one with multi chokes and you'll have a gun to tackle anything from skeet to wildfowl (with the appropriate ammo).

I bought the sporter version last year and i'm delighted with it.

The beauty of an o&u is you've got a choice of choke selection instantly.

Good luck with whatever choice you make and enjoy it. :good:

I had a lanber about 5 years ago- from new-the cocking link thats attached to the forend wore away in less than 2 years-i would never buy another (o.k. so this may have been an isolated case but i wouldnt bother giving them a second chance when there are so many excellent cheap guns around)

I will have to watch out for that then. I also have a lanber o/u and have to say so far ive found it an excellent gun. Nice solid quality feel to it, supprisingly low recoil compared to some o/u`s ive used. Whether that is because it just fits me better i dont know. Ive only put about 2000 cartridges through it so far over the last couple of years, so will have to keep an eye on it.
