CZ550Kevlar
Hmm pretty safe, not totally safe, C4 is pretty safe and you can play tennis with it but i wouldn`t want my daughter playing with that either, also my wife will love me if she see`s my daughter walking around with a 12 guage cartridge in her hand. al4x
just have a wardrobe that locks or any container with a lock really if you can't keep your child away from them but its getting away from the thread issue that there isn't any official requirement to lock them up

covlocks
When I applied for my Shotgun Cert, my visit "interview" consisted of a lecture on which local stores NOT to buy from, places to go and shoot, a discussion of why I should hide my cartridges out of sight and how close I could shoot to a public highway or footpath to prevent giving someone a heart attack (on permission land). A half hour of that, a push/pull at my cabinet to ensure it was bolted to the wall, an unofficial chat about pigeons and magpies that my house seems to be a magnet for - job done. A week later, mine and my wifes certs turned up in the post. Total time from start to finish - 4 weeks. Painless, quick, and the guy that came, an ex police officer, was very sensible and polite. That was the West Mids Police.
Boromir
My FEO said to keep Cartridges out of sight that's all nothing else, so don't need to phone up to see if your wrong because I listened to my FEO and he knows best.

CZ550Kevlar
Was posted in America and Canada for a while and odd words still slip in that rubbed off on me , but yes it should be bore.
notsosureshot
Mine also said to keep cartridges out of sight, not because they require secure storage as such, but because it indicates the presence of a gun in the house. Fair reasoning I thought.
Guest
Mine didn't say anything about storage of cartridges but I already knew that there was no law on storing cartridges anyway.
Imperfection
Mine said just to keep them out of reach of children and although i havent got any kids, friends do when they visit so they're stacked on top of wardrobe. If i did have kids then i would lock them in a cupboard. mart46
My FAO was round last week. He asked me what should I be aware of when out shooting? I talked about walking / climbing obstales with the gun broke, then hit upon being aware of public highways, bridleways and footpaths this seemed to be the right answer! CZ550Kevlar
I was asked if i had any biscuits to go with his tea. I didn`t actually get asked any questions really, just said i would be clay shooting, showed my members card showed him the receipt for the shotgun i had purchased and that was about it, nothing about safety etc. Edited April 27, 2009 by CZ550Kevlar
Blackbart
When i applied for sgc,Two cops in uniform arrived in a traffic car.Spent all of 10 mins in the house, had a quick look at my cabinet and said i should get cert in a couple of weeks.Didnt tell me to store carts or anything. And when he came to visit he actually phoned 10 mins prior and said "i am in the area could i call in and see you"That was the first contact i had had,no appointment or anything like that.
