Cranfield
I thought about this once (for crows on the floater/bouncer) and couldn't find any foam that was rigid enough. With regard to a template, I actually marked round the wing size/shape of a dead crow and made my own template. You could do the same with a dead pigeon, at least you would know it was like "the real thing".
Ballymac
Check the DIY section on this forum, there are a few posts on there that might help you. When I get round to it I am goingto have a go at this so was looking for some foam material to use. Someone from here had suggested depronfoam used in the making of model airplanes etc. Someone also suggested using one of those roll up mats used when camping, and lidl have one on sale for £4 at the mo so might invest in that
Spaniel
Done some the weekend, just drawed my own wing shape and made them from camping foam sheet which you can get for about £3 childs size from a camp shop.
steve_b_wales
I used 'camping mat' foam, and to strengthen it, when on the decoy, I inserted wooden barbeque skewers into the foam.

Cranfield
I used 'camping mat' foam, and to strengthen it, when on the decoy, I inserted wooden barbeque skewers into the foam. In my earlier post I mentioned that I gave up as I couldn't find any foam rigid enough. I did try the camping mat foam and as steve says, you have to brace it, or it flops around too much. Has anyone found any foam (or similar material) that is rigid (not wood or plastic) ?
Ballymac
Hi Cranfield google depronfoam or check the craft and diy section on here. Not sure if this foam is any stiffer than the camping mat foam. Steve b that sounds like a good idea. I was thinking of using some pallet strapping that I used to make ezzy wobblers for the shell decoys. Also thought that if a template of the wings was made out of stiff cardboard or balsa wood and then sandwiched between the foam would this work or would it start to get to heavy? Maybe a trip to evil bay and spend £21 +£5 postage would be easier Edited April 29, 2009 by Ballymac
thinxs
I printed off the image from those on E**y and the played with the sizes on the photo copier enlarging and shrinking. Checked it out for size with dead pigeon. Just cost a few sheets of paper. Once you've got it right take an extra copy and keep it for later. Greenhunter
The type of foam you need is high density polyethelene . Trouble is I can't find a supplier so if you find one please let me know, Ive tried everywhere! Not much use but at least you know what you are looking for!
