John_R
A daft question, but this is early days with the M2. I knew the semi-auto can be a pain for spewing shells, but yesterday I took 13 shots from one particular spot and could only find four empties at the end of the day. Is it too silly an idea to find a small metal detector or something? It would have to be small as I think there is enough stuff to lug about already. I was wondering about those magnets on a stick but that could be pretty hit & miss. If I cannot sort that out I will simply have to avoid certain spots just because of this. groach1234
I shoot with a few people who use those magnet sticks for picking up carts and they seem to be pretty good to me, saves a lot of bending over in the grass George
Harnser
I know what you mean . So dont buy green cartridges , blue or black stand out better when in the grass . Harnser .
Cranfield
I have one of the telescopic magnetic sticks for picking up cartridges, especially useful when they are in the brambles, water, or nettles. I bought mine on the Bay of E.
John_R
I do agree the magnets are good for getting to them once located, but it was finding them that was hard. Colour was dark blue, perhaps red shells would stand out a bit, but this place managed to hide shot pigeons too!
pyr8
would a domestic cable, pipe detector be any use.will fit in your pocket ok.
mark1187
I wouldn't bother with a cable/pipe detector, I have a few including a fancy model but the range is too limited. I used to use a Halfords pick-up tool which was pocketable but had limited reach and would let go fairly easily. I bought a telescopic pole from Charles Bull (the Sporting Gun cartridge reviewer), empties seemed to leap onto the end of it! My 1187 thows shells a fair distance when vertical for overhead shots, especially with a tail-wind befind them!. This plus ricochets means you will never find all of them, just pick up what you can. I go on the basis if I cannot see them, nobody else will! If I miss anything I pick it (and any else's) next time I see it. Normally use blue Hull Special Pigeon. Have red Winchesters in 5's and white Gamebore in 4's. Have to say the whites are easiest for me!

notsosureshot
This might help: http://www.bosesguns.com/product_p/bir41012.htm You simply reach and grab the empty after each shot and chuck them at your feet. Wont work if you're blasting away at an entire flock but probably beats spending hours looking for empties
Ozzy Fudd
sounds daft but why not put a bag over the receiver to catch the empties? i know i never worry too much...
