Saw a few this morning on my way to work. They were in flight with adult birds heading for a grass field that was cut a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately not one of my permissions.

Certainly starting to see a lot more birds around in general - they have been quite sparse for the last few weeks.

I have found that they are really attracted to the magnet and often nearly get tangled up in it!

They also decoy easily. Poor nieve little fellas.......but they are still good flyers and offer the same level of sport. They taste better too. :ermm:

We've been shooting numbers of young birds since February/March and the ones shot this last few weeks must have been born about then and onwards so I guess they truely are breeding all year round.

Mind you I'd like someone (not hearsay from my uncles, pals, mates, cousin please) to clarify for me this; if, as is commonly held, a pigeon pair can have 3 broods a year, do they? I have 2 pairs that breed in the garden every year (yes unmolested) but only ever once a year so do they nest again elsewhere or only raise the one brood? Anyone?

Also is it the same pair each year or the young from a year past?

Has anyone done any true research since Merton?
