ex layers

Recommended Posts

One theory is that the birds left at the end of the season, and caught up for laying, are the low flyers that didn't get fired at during the season. But then, people always did have theories, Lenin and Marx and Gordon Brown for example.

There always used to be a handy little piece in the ICI Shooters Year Book (Diary) by Archie Coates, about how to try to get the most out of ex-layers.

"on our local shoot we hot 110% of the ex layers we put down"

1, 110% Impossible !!!! 100% yes , but highly improbable.

2, The mysterious 10% + is obviously birds that were on the ground in the first place .(not ex layers )

3, Unless they were tagged ,you would never know the %

4,Ex layers dont get a reputation for nothing !

  • 2 weeks later...

We have used ex layers for the last eight years on our shoot don't believe the dribble that they are bad flyers they can be just as easily be high flyers that have been missed. All game breeders want good breeding stock their livelihoods depend on it As for them wandering we loose feed twice a week with layer pellet/corn mix on top of corn in feeders. If push for time in the winter days invest in a auto feeder.if your land as any cover crop make sure ther are plenty of feeders around he crop.

We have as they are ex layers lower maintenance than poults but with regular feeding and worming a good return is possible.
