Captain pot shot
I have an outline design for a new type of "active decoy". As you can imagine I'm not about to share the details at this stage but let it suffice to say that it would be very realistic, powered and, I believe, more effective than current offerings. Price would be projected to be comparable with the better systems currently available. It would be a moving decoy system intended to attract attention to a pattern of static decoys in the same way you might use flappers or magnets. What I wondered was: Is there a market for anything more than is currently available? Is the market saturated? Do you ever find yourself asking " is there something better than what I've got?" Cheers, PS.

Guest topshot_2k
decoys are such a small factor when it comes to shooting pigeons, weather, feeding, flightlines etc has much more influence so i would say it isnt really worth it. i have made 80+bags with a 15 old full body decoys most of which had paint missing. These days i use 15 flocked shells for lightness and 2 bouncers, they do the job fine aslong as i have the field craft right, electric powered decoys are an unnecessary extra in my opinion. Cheers, PS. Couple of things you need to take into consideration. 1 - Weight. 2 - Reliability. 3 Working parts, the more you have. the more that we / users will break. 4 - Retard factor, can idiots work it..... Cost to manufacture, cost of parts, cost of labour.................... Is there a market........well we hope so otherwise us shops would close down. Ive got to say i disagree with this. While i know big bags are totally achievable without any more than just plain old decoys, some aids can really swing a day in your favour. I've shot bags of 200+ where i'm totally convinced that without the aid of magnets etc i wouldn't have got half that bag. You yourself say you use bouncers, so a different aid that someone could invent could prove well worthwhile. After all the pigeon magnet revolutionised modern pigeon shooting. In fairness, I think topshot has a good point. Its no good equipping yourself with all the latest gadgetry, if you don't understand at least the basics about pigeon behaviour. I have seen pigeon shooters, poorly concealed, in the wrong part of the field, on the wrong crop , with their rotary stuck in front of them and expecting miracles.........that don't happen. There is no gadget that can make you an instant success as a pigeon shooter. How many times do you read posts on here about how this or that gadget, or method, doesn't work ? Its often the case that the poster has got a million other things wrong with the layout/setup and its no fault of the particular gadget. With regard to the question of is there a market for a new type of decoy, I am sure there is and even if its not that good, I can guarantee that someone will buy it. kdubya
there will always be a market for a "new" type of decoy, everybody wants an instant fix, god knows I have myself bought and tried just about everything? wasted some money over the years! Problem is most are just gimmicks that actually stop you shooting more pigeon as they mindset you into thinking you don't have to work to get them! ie they will with your new bit if kit be queuing up to get shot? Nowadays if I go specifically for pigeon I go when its windy, when the birds (through surveillance) have been proved to want to come to the area you intend to shoot and are actually about in the first place, I tend now only to use a couple of bouncers (not gonna argue about who's are best but I DO know) and a couple of dozen silo socks, and a flapper I also have a very lightweight rotary that is in my truck should I think I need it, but it stays put 90% of the time, For any new device to be of interest to me now it needs to be A) seen from distance add movement C) be light and easy to carry D) not need a power source or if it does not a whopping great car battery. now who do I know that is working on something that fits the first 3? cheers KW
