pavman
If you wanted a pure stalking rifle then a beautiful Sauer 202 avant garde with apel mounts and a nice swaro/zeiss/S&B fixed power scope would be very nice but, as I understand it your going to be mainly foxing/lamping. That means your gun will be getting bashed around in the truck/on the roof/out of the window etc. as such I would go for a stainless synthetic rifle that can handle a bit of work. RPA''s are very good rifles and I would not hestitate to buy one if you're not restrained to a budget, having said that they do have an offers section on their site which is worth keeping an eye on. ATB Moses You are about right, Fox and the odd Deer, Its also part of my plan in that about a year on I will apply for an open ticket and wanted that on a sensible caliber.... to cover me going forward.... I have a meeting set up with http://www.riflecraft.co.uk/mainmain.htm as i did my safety training with them and they turn out very nice tools at around £1250 for a light sporting... semi custom that take factory rounds.... Think i may like to try the thumb hole stock... MC is bang on in that we all like or require must suit our own circumstance, for me i need a good solid field rifle (not wood) as i cant stand scratches I have the disabled left arm so that causes some problems that need to be worked round.... its all good fun! now if i could just find the right scope

funky
quite an imtresting post I have received my variation for .243 but have gone for a more traditonal set up CZ 550 S&B 3-12 x 42 the only thing i am strugling with is the Moderator... was thinking of a A-Tec but having trouble sourcing one. Do like all the sniper rifle look but feel its a little OTT for me specially when most of the shots taken will be under 300 yrds in a forest lol hopefully

funky
No i have ordered the CZ 550 American and its a traditional looking rifle. I did look at the laminate version but opted against it for reason of a personal nature I.E prefer the tradional look

scolopax
Nice set up, but its going to be real heavy. No driving around and taking shots off the bipod on the bonnet, thats cheating. You had better get to the gym.

No driving around and taking shots off the bipod on the bonnet, thats cheating. You had better get to the gym. Total weight should be around 11lbs, on the Bipod and truck mounted platform dont really do much walky stalky so should not be to much of a problem..... I have 2X 10 bores the S/S is a tad under 13 lbs on a sling its not to much hassle I am not lacking in the beef dept but i take your valid point and like most things there is always a trade off.... I cant believe the lake of choice around and the dealers all say the guns are going to the USA on mass and they cant get orders.... so i looked at custom and semi custom but the extra price is not reflected in the overall outcome so i went for good factory to suit and also whats available! Top end glass should do me for some time to come and I got a very nice deal Edited September 9, 2009 by pavman
Ferretboy111
Me thinks you will have to take out a mortgage for your scope! You can come and wang off my roe deer when you get it if you want. Alex

You can come and wang off my roe deer when you get it if you want. Alex Umm i like it, thanks Alex... PS you get what you pay for, was out with Highlander last night he has a stalking 7X50 and we must have seen 4 charlies within the rifle shot but alas not his scope he just could not ID 100% so we had to leave them.... I hate that all the work and no reward, i hope to reverse this when the new kit arrives
funky
I must agree with your statement Pav that you only get what you pay for and feel this to be more the case with scopes I took delivery of my S&B 3-12X42 KLASSIK and all i can say is WOW. I have also opted for a Wildcat 200 mainly because you can strip them down and clean them. I will be picking up the CZ 550 American on Friday so all is good. I thought about which rifle and what scope and Mod for a good while and found that most factory rifles shoot well out of the box. Mods well there are all types ASE, Atec, T8, T4, they all do much the same, the one i wanted was the A Tec but could not get hold of one so i went for the wild cat. all in all a setup up that suits my needs, a bit of Foxing and a bit of Deer stalking. Really don't now the amount of time i will use it, but have the kit in the cabinet if the oppertunity arises in the future. i suppose we will have to wait and see.... Best of luck speak to all soon
