Psyxologos
Despite this topic, I have just put a £1000 deposit on a Land Rover Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 HSE. I loved the car on first sight. Drives very similar to the X5 and comes with loads of luxuries (leather, sat nav, bluetooth, cd changer, climate control etc). Anyone had any experience of them at all? I enclose a picture of car with specs. I deliberately left the price on there, so you can tell me if I got a good offer, to your opinion. I part exchanged my mini cooper s and got £10,750 off the price of the Freelander.

apache
I drive a Freelander 2 Commercial as my work car. No-where near the spec of yours but a good car. Very quiet on motorway, easy to drive, although the centre console is a little wide and I do catch my left knee on it sometimes. Great car, I've had no problems. Blackbart
There is some good vids on youtube of freelanders off road and they do look very capable and TBH i do not know anyone personally with one and was making a judgement on the older model as i know a few people with them including my brother in law who as had nothing but trouble with his. What car rates them better than the series 1 but they are still in the top 6 most unreliable cars in britain and it is something like 20% of them break down in the first year as opposed to the 1 series where 25% broke down i the first year. And according to them the disco is worse. Psyxologos
I do not plan any extreme off roading. What I see in these videos is much more than I will ever ask the car to do. So I think I shall be fine.
pavman
I have had one from new its giving 34 MPG fitted a nice box steel platform for shooting, cant beat box steel on a £30K car, i have all the trimmings Leather etc, platform fits on or off in just 20 mins, but to be honest I do take Mrs P shoping in it to Tesco just for the looks Edited September 22, 2009 by pavman
Chard
I went through a half inch deep puddle "too fast" in mine (when I had one). It was off the road for 3 days Land Rover told me that the high-speed water had forced it's way in where it shouldn't have been I mentioned to them that their advertising showed a Freelander going through a river, but they said that wasn't the same thing at all  Don't go out if it's wet  Edited September 22, 2009 by Chard
ProteuS
just be prepared to replace your backbox reasonably frequently. My friend who has one (no extreme off roading, just going to driven shoots) has destroyed two as it is in a vunerable location and doesnt have much clearance. It also refused to get to the top of the little grassy field we used to shoot at the top of, when the discos and fourtraks were making it up with ease. Mind you he oes alot of milage in his and it's mainly on the road so it serves him well. I hope you enjoy yours

ProteuS
Yup, standard rubber. but most of the other vehicles going up the same bit were on road tread tyres too.

ziplex
I've had mine for a few months now, done 4000 miles without a problem, really like the car and wish i'd gone ahead in Nov'/Dec' when I first thought about one. I px'd a 330d BMW which I hated come the end, for me this is spot on for what I want it for , and i'm averaging 37/38mpg too. I've spoken to lots of people and providing you have any recall work done they seem generally very reliable, people assume they're bad ref' the reputation that the previous model had but it's a completely different animal. Good luck, i'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

The car is mainly going to be used on road, and to and from driven shoots and the marsh, all in all about 10 times a year. When tyre changing time comes, I shall ask for more advice. I have had people suggesting the scorpions on another forum though...

Psyxologos
I don't wish to derail this thread, but what did you rate the Cooper S? Nice car, a bit 'plasticky' though. Really responsive and fast, I would recommend it. Only drawback is that it has almost NO boot space...
