  1. Don't see why they wouldn't work, nice movement..... can only tempt them in i reckon. Certaintly worth a try, might make lugging a rotary a thing of the past...... well sometimes. Dave

Thanks very much for your help Mike, i'll give it a go later today.... You chaps make it all sound so easy  maybe one day it'll all click with me and i'll just do these things as second nature.... but for now they are a leap into the unknown Cheers Dave
  3. They look good to me I love all this making your own kit, and your on the right track with this... I would say that the un-cut shell looks good enough, save all that faffing about cutting. Maybe make the movement a bit more exagerated so they really stand out , but otherwise excellent stuff. I've been thinking about a motorised flapper myself..... early days though.. Dave

My fault for not explaining it properly... I did click on it, only it then opened a box which showed user, admin, user and/as admin ... and something else .... which i think was the place to choose changing permission, only it wouldn't let me change it... only admin can change it .. and i'm not admin so can't. How do i get to be the 'admin' ? I expect i'm not decribing it correctly, to old and dumb to really get to grips with computers, but i normally muddle through. Any help ? Dave
  5. Dont know about the current restrictions of parts coming from the US, others may know more.. But i have heard good things about http://www.brignoliarmi.com/catalogo.php?liv_id=1_15 Not used them myself , so it's only hear say .... but apparently delivery is quick. Dave

Right, i tried that and got as far as the 'Run once menu' but it wouldn't let me expand that, i think i need to be classed as administrator or something... how do i make it allow me access ? I ran Malwarebytes ... no problems found, and Spybot which found one that i removed. Laptop runs slow so i need to get rid of the stuff thats running in the back ground from startup... Can anyone help ? Dave
  7. Definately go for it, very rewarding and they are enjoyable to watch.... But be prepaired to lose your garden if you let them out, they are very destructive. Rats can be a nuisance, even if you dont have a real problem yourself they will come in from other gardens... everyone has rats near them, they just dont see them.... nothing a trap and airgun cant sort out. I've got 13 left out of 18 after Fox attack in broad daylight, you have to be vigilant and try to keep them secure. Have also got 2 Goats , 2 big dogs and 4 cats..... and the neighbours dont mind at all.. must be like living next to a Zoo ! the hens are hybrids (brown Rangers ) which lay up to 320 eggs per year, but they won't stay at that level of laying for more than 18-24 mths , after that get rid and start again. Try http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk not a bad site for a novice, plenty of tips. Should have said, should be no problem keeping them , most people love to see them and unlikely to have any restricions for home use. Dave
  8. I bought a new Bertta 303 sporter back in the eighties, and i didn't have to run it in .... mind you i don't remember ever reading the manual .... But back then everyone was using 32g loads at clay shoots and even heavier at fitsac ... Mine used to cycle without any problem... but was allways kept clean internally .... Never fired any light loads like are in use today. Dave
  9. Essex gun sell 9mm SxS .... an awful lot of money for such a little gun... Most ones you see for sale are bolt action.. Range with such a small cartridge is very limited, maybe 10 yds... but they are effective for what they were ment to do, shoot rats around the chicken sheds and pig runs and protect the veggie patch... Not cheap to run, never were and most certaintly not a toy. They are still capable of killing someone and should be treated with respect.. I used to have alot of fun when younger shooting rats in the hen houses, but even with care they punched holes in the shed. Not really much use, as airguns can do the job cheaper, and 410's have much better range and effect. Can still be fun to have though.... just don't expect too much Dave
  10. Maybe over-reacting, but things people did in the 50's and 60's ... and got away with is one thing, but times have changed and so have the laws and public pressure... I agree that common sense may have prevailed in the garden gun thread and possibly the .22 smoothbore thread, but the questions and implied answers still remain. There have been several posts when people have stated how you can cram an extra round into a 2+1 auto .... and no that is not legal on SGC. And you must of read the posts of all the 'use a magnum load ' posts... for pigeon over decoys, and rabbits and foxes at stupid ranges that should only be done with a rifle. It's all bad press on a public forum... Maybe it's all getting to me to much.... i don't know  Time for another coffee and bed.... Dave
  11. There seems to be more and more posts from people wanting to make their shotguns take more shells than their licence allows (how to cram in a third shell in an auto), heavier loads for decoying, bigger shot kills further... so must be good etc.etc. ... and this week posts from people either asking or suggesting ways to fire slugs from normal shotguns. What's going on ? Don't these people realise that what they are doing/suggesting is illegal ? With this rambo attitude it's no wonder shooting is allways in the spotlight and under threat. What ever happend to responsible shooters... the reckless/dangerous few are doing our sport no good at all. Surely these people know what will happen to them if they are caught with an extra round in the mag, or caught in posession of cartridges loaded with slugs..... And all of this on a public forum..... very clever. Off my soap box now.... Dave
  12. I dont understand it Andy.... i've seen several airgun/rifle shooters asking for a chance in Kent, and with your permission and knowledge of the area it would have been a good night for someone.... Dave
  13. I don't think there is such a thing as average, far to many variables.... somedays all seem to fold, other days more runners... just me not hitting them right. If it's a regular part of your days shooting , then maybe you need to go and practice on some clays and sharpen up your shooting. And if your killing zone is 40 yds out, i think it's abit far.... i normally have the killing area at about 25 yds with the farthest bird at about 40 yds to give an idea of range of incomers/crossers. In other words don't try to shoot at extreme range, shot them where it's more certain and you have got the chance of a follow up shot should you miss. dave
  14. As far as i know slugs have to go on FAC .... normal shotgun certificates are not enough. I don't think they are legal on any quarry in the uk..... though i could be wrong on that. Most users of slugs have them for PSG , and i thnk they use 12's not 410's. Much more popular in Europe and the US, where they use them for Deer and Boar, can be very accurate apparently through the right gun..... and deliver massive energy. Dave
  15. Now then Henry,Don't go getting his hopes up !..... if you click on the item , it expands to show the price.... though i'm sure you knew that Their current price for Gamebore clear pigeon , fibre wad, 30g 6#...is £196..... I buy from Scatts , the same load is £185.20 thousand ... thats at the most current price list i have, that price may have changed by now. Dave
  16. Where in Kent ? Try http://www.countrywaygunshop.co.uk/catalog/ They are normally the best prices in the area.... though John Forsey may be worth a go, Greenfields sometimes have specials, not often for game /pigeon loads... West Kent are fairly keen, but mainly clay loadf i think.... And don't forget branches of Scatts , maybe not the cheapest, but they normally do me. Clay loads are allways about at cheap prices, game/pigeon loads in this area are not..more so if ,like me, you choose to shoot fibre wads. but how many and how 'cheap ' are you expecting to buy ? Dave
  17. Be safe and stick to the air rifle for the garden, at least you wont upset the neighbours to much. The 410 is a very capable little tool, but as you have a permission maybe a 12 would be more usefull in the long run. Unless you've got your heart set on an auto, a SxS or O/U would do you just as well and would probably be more reliable... though the two shooters i know with Hatsans have had no trouble with theirs, maybe they just keep them clean..... Though i'd still start off with either a SxS or O/U .... they will see you through any game or rough shooting situation you will meet. Dave
  18. Bit confused as to what you want to use the gun for.... if you were a bit clearer maybe some more usefull advice would follow. If it's just rats in the garden... why even think about an auto ? Don't know about the legalities of shooting crows in the garden ..... How big is the garden ? If it's just rats, then consider an air rifle.... Remember , no shot or pellets must leave your boundry....and you could end up in deep **** if your gun going off scares or startles your neighbours, so be wary of any shotgun. The guns you mention are two entirely different beasts, both usefull in their own right ... But tell us what shooting you plan to do. Dave
  19. Never heard of them..... just looked at their website and they dont mention them on there... Any more info ? Dave
  20. I've only been on one big roost shoot ,years ago...... and it was a complete flop ! The local pest controller/game dealer and some of the local keepers had organised the assault, and by getting every gun they could muster, covered virtually every wood..... my mate and i covered our own farms wood... everything was set. Thousands of pigeons were in the area in the afternoon and we looked forward to the evening... It sounded like world war three, shots ringing out in frantic volleys.... but all we could see was a few guys across the valley blasting at anything that moved, in range or not...... very little came our way..... we ended up with 6 or 7 i think... normally we would have had double that number on our own .... My game dealer moaned about the lack of restraint some guns showed and the paltry size of the bag they managed, he had busier weekends when it was just the local pigeon shooters dropping off their dead. A few, knowledgeable guns who can show restraint, can be far more effective than massed ranks blasting the skies with lead. Dave
  21. As has been said many times, 28/32 g's no6 will kill at all sensible ranges.... It's a small bird and all it's organs are close together , so the chances of missing something vital , every shot, must be nill.... whether you shoot it from the front, side or back .... as long as you hit it ! Clouds of feathers mean very little really , sometimes so many come out you feel you must have hit it hard... only for it to fly away seemingly no worse for wear.. Your missing either above or below... up to you to find out.. Use larger shot if you must, your choice, but remember that larger shot leads to less pattern density, so you might have to fit a tighter choke to maintain this.... which means more accurate shooting anyway.... Whatever you choose, hopefully you'll find a combination that you like and one that suits your style . Dave
  22. As long as you had a good bit of sport.... don't worry about the cartridge count.. It's a good job dogs cant talk, cause they look like they might have word with you Dave
  23. I'm 58 and recovering from Cancer..... if i can't drive across the field all i take is a dozen shell decoys and maybe a floater or two .... plus of course the usual flask, cart.,hide etc.... But sometimes minimal kit is no handicap to having a good days shooting.... Dave
  24. Whats wrong with yer... good country smell... puts hair on your chest I really don't find it unpleasant, but then again ,i keep chickens..... Dave
