  1. Took a couple of hours off this afternoon to see if there were many about. Set up in the wrong spot to start with so wasted the first 4 carts on near impossible birds. Moved around the field a bit and got them coming in okay. Managed 9 (1 not picked) for 15 which I was pleased enough with given the start of 4 for nought. Even managed two left and rights, the skeet practice is paying off! Not a bad result given the same field from the same spot was shot on Saturday by another shooter. Had another 8 last week so a grand summer total of 16 !
  2. Hi Bernard, I have finally got all the components to start some test duplex loads. Managed to borrow an antique roll top tool so will see how that goes. Just need some time to get at it. Will keep you updated with the results when they arrive!
  3. I quite fancied having ago with one of those vintage tools, just wasn't sure they would actually work!
  4. Thanks to help from Bernard and some others I am nearly ready to load some 12 bore 70 mm steel loads. The only thing I haven't got but can borrow are tools to finish\close the cartridge off. I will only be loading about 100 goose carts per year so don't need anything fancy and am happy to it all by hand but still need to find a suitable way of closing the carts up. I could get a Lee loadall press for £70 or so and that would also help with de priming and priming and resizing etc. I could get a RTO tool at £40 but would then need a stand for my drill so another £25 so about the same as the Lee Loadall but with out the benefits of the priming and resizing etc Looking about on the internet there are a few youtube videos of folk "field loading" carts and they finish the cart by placing an overshot card on and then waxing or glueing it in place. This is okay for SxS and OU but maybe not for Semis and pumps due to the cartridge length. Has any body tried the wax or glue seal method? is it safe? What does it do to pressure etc? Cheers Flipper
  5. Ditchy, the birds don’t roost there, just use it during the day. I am in Scotland so there is thousands of acres of confers for them to choose from! Manage another afternoon out and bagged 15. Best drillings I have had for years! No idea why the pics upside down!
  6. As per a previous recent topic Spring drillings don’t really seem to offer much opportunity now a days. However an afternoon wander about found a field with some birds on. Wind was right in my face and I was back up against a young conifer plantation so it made fo some interesting snap shooting as they dived into the decoys from behind me giving little or no chance to see them approaching. Good to have birds decoying though!
  7. I am looking at a couple of side by sides on line so can't handle them before purchase. I have shot 28 and 30 inch side by sides but one of them is available in a 32 inch barrel. The gun will be used for everything including a lot of wildfowling flighting geese and shooting teal over decoys and pigeons. While I think the 32 inch barrels would work well on high geese I am not sure if they would make the gun a little slow and unresponsive on smaller close in stuff like teal. Has anyone any personal experience of 32 inch barrels in a side by side? How did it handle? Cheers Flipper
  8. Hi Bernard, sorry for the slow response but I am on and off line a bit at the moment. It's Mark here, we have chatted elsewhere about TSS loads etc so it's your Oakie HG load I am planning to run. I am looking locally for Cheddite hulls and thought that it would be easy enough to pick up some used 70mm cases from the clay ground but I don't know which brands use Cheddite hulls. I would like to stick to the load recipe as much as possible but may have to use the CCI 209M primer as previously discussed with you. That would be one variation from the recipe and I don't want to deviate any further especially as the PSI on the load was already at 11400 psi and my gun is only proofed to 13,000 psi or there abouts. I may have to move to a different gun that can handle a higher pressure as I have a 3.5 inch SXP, but that sort of defeats the point of home loading the TSS as I wanted to use it in the SxS ! If I used the SXP I would load a 3 inch case and take a chance on the forceing cones being fine in a 3.5 inch gun. I would look for a 36grm steel load and swap out some of the steel for TSS. All loads whatever cart would be roll turnover so that should reduce the pressure a bit. Cheers Mark
  9. The load data calls for cx2000 or cheddite 209 but all I can get are cci209m primers. Will be using them with alliant steel powder. Had considered CCI 209 as a cooler primer but have read that alliant steel powder needs a hot ish primer to burn properly?
  10. Thanks for the info guys, was going to use Cheddite hulls as thats what the load recipe uses. I will be using CCI 209M primers, what do they best fit in? Cheers
  11. Does anyone know if the Eley Eco pro 70mm steel cartridges are Cheddite hulls, I need some for reloading and have plenty of once fired Eley Eco Pro carts! Cheers
  12. If you need none plastic wads eley eco 32 gram 3 or 5 will do the job just fine. Plastic wads the gamebore 70 mm wetland steel 32 gram 4 was always great. Some use 3 inch carts like gamebore mammoths 36 gram 3 but personally unless they are a long long way out they are over kill plus extra recoil.
  13. Well that is very impressive. Thanks for sharing the picture and info, always good to see something a bit different. Cheers Mark
  14. Wow that is different! What does it shoot like, what do you use it for?
  15. There is one model that is a “canon” weighs 8lbs plus and has 30 inch plus barrels. Then there is the beri, 28 inch barrels should weigh about 7.25 pounds. Here is a pic of a 28 bore,is yours like
  16. Looking for a Zabala Beri Beri lux 12 bore multi choke side by side if any one knows where there is one for sale. Cheers Mark
  17. Great report, very entertaining, guess that’s how it goes some days though. 10 out of 10 for effort though!
  18. Hi Peter, Not wishing to dampen your admirable aims but such tests have already been done by Nick Horton on the TGS you tube channel. Watch that before you start? best of luck. Flipper
  19. Hi Dave, I can’t help you out with a load I’m afraid, could do with any info you get though! what size shot tss will you be loading, I assume this is for foreshore geese? cheers
  20. Thanks for the right up and a great photo
  21. I think the 4 shot size are only a 30 gram load compared to the eco wads in 3 and 5 which are a 32 gram load. The 5s will drop pigeon well out to 40 yards if you do your bit!
  22. Great pics. What’s the gun cartridge combo?
  23. Apparently the duplex loads work very well. The steel shot doesn’t seem to be anything more than a filler? I don’t have a 410 or 28 bore. I was hoping to get a decent load for my 70 mm chambered SXS with low recoil. Even if you put 1/2 oz of TSS in a 12 bore wad there is still a heck of a lot of space to fill up to get the column height right for finishing.
