We should always bear in mind that most defence spending ends up in somebody's pay packet. Whether that somebody is a soldier or a worker in one of the industries that supports the armed services. All those workers pay tax or spend their wages in the shops where it goes back to the government as vat. It just goes round and round in the economy. Cost to the nation is zero. Cutting the defence budget doesn't save the government any money. It just puts people out of work but the state then still has to support them.

A lot of waiters and bar staff in Ameriica are not paid anything by the restaurant or bar. Also, in this country there was a story a while back about waiters in places like Pizza restaurants not getting tips and gratuities passed on to them. The restaurant just keep the lot

I would never leave a tip in a Chinese or an Indian restaurant

Nor me, one step at a time. And you can never go far wrong with a Hawke scope. By the time you have sighted it in, found the best pellets ( Jumbo Exact are a good starting point) shot hundreds of groups . Learned about drop and elevation at different ranges you will be ready to consider the next stage. And hopefully have shot hundred of rats and squirrels so you will have opinions of your own.

Yes cyclists too. They have a sense of self entitlement as well

To be honest, dog owners / walkers are among some of the most selfish people. Not all, not even the majority, but some definitely are.

Main dealers never seem to change pollen filters irrespective of what make of car you are talking about. I believe it is because they are not usually included in the service schedule. My main agent keeps banging on about my car should have the brake fluid changed every couple of years. No it shouldn't, modern synthetic brake fluid should never need changing for the life of the car because it's not hydroscopic like the old brake fluid used to be. Okay it may be nice to change it now and again, but not £140 every two years. Similarly, they wanted to change my plugs at 60K miles but the service book says every 90K it's running fine and giving around 38-40mpg on a run so leave it alone

Not everyone has Clarkson's ability to turn their farm into a reality TV series. If Clarkson is earning money from his farm I doubt very much that its from what it grows Also his farm shop has people queuing to get it but not because they want to buy potatoes and carrots. Most of the stuff on the shelves is heavily merchandised with the name of the shop.

I don't suppose many people on here have any appreciation of how difficult or how much time it takes to sell a farm? Virtually nobody has the money or the experience to buy a farm outright Very few people would want to. Except the existing family. So in the past families have been allowed to hand them down to the next generation for continuity Otherwise they are likely to get bought up by developers and nobody wants that.

I worked briefly for our local council some twenty years ago. Not as an employee but as a contractor. The place was a holiday camp back then.

I can't understand how they give thousands away in child benefit to children who are not even in the country and in many instances have never ever been in the country. In fact why pay child benefit at all?

Britain is sitting on a thousand years worth of coal. Coal makes benzine. The reason the powers that be want to get away from the fossil fuels we use now is because of who we currently buy them from. EVs still burn fossil fuels, they just do it remotely. -
How can it not cause job losses and inflation? There is no way it's going to create more jobs or reduce prices is there? Typical socialist mis management of the economy because they don't understand the first principles

Not just the car makers. You can say the same for every manufacturing industry in the western world. We are sleep walking into financial ruin -

Today I did a 300 mile round trip to go my Grandaughter's birthday We had a lovely day but the key thing is I DIDN'T have to make a two hour stop at a motorway services somewhere to charge my car. Two hours out of my life that I would never get back Next week we have to go to a funeral and that will be a 600 round trip. What would that be? Three? four? recharges at two hours a time? And that's if there is an empty, working charging point when you get there. My stepdaughter tells me most motorway service area charging points won't fast charge. -

I'm surprised he couldn't find it because BMW's own website is full of their Hydrogen X5. I really can't believe BMW would be pushing ahead with this if discussions weren't taking place with the German government behind closed doors. Where is the sense in Germany allowing some of its biggest and most prestigious companies going to the wall in pursuit of some crazy woke fantasy that only benefits China? -

No, BMW are planning to launch hydrogen cars in 2028 Working in conjunction with Toyota. Mercedes also throwing a lot of R&D into hydrogen cars and has prototypes being tested Why would they be doing that if they believed EVs were a done deal? But im not going to do your research for you because you won't believe anyway. If EVs were such a great idea they would evolve naturally and customer choice would drive the transition. Why the need for draconian legislation? Why the need for any sort of legislation come to think of it? Good products sell themselves They don't work for most motorists, people don't like them, they cost too much, depreciate like mad and are inconvenient to charge. Plus the insurance is outrageous Oh and just for good measure, they are an environmental disaster. Where is the logic in German, French, British and American car manufacturers chucking away a hundred and twenty years of engine manufacturing expertise to produce and sell cars powered by Chinese lithium batteries? Unless there is some other agenda at play here? -
Where we live in Cornwall is about three quarters of a mile up the road from a drive through KFC and a drive through McD. The amount of packaging, cups, wrappers etc that just gets chucked out of car windows is ridiculous Locals say the shops themselves should send people out to clear it up because they can't deny where it has come from

Evidence now emerging that BMW and Mercedes are walking away from EVs. Ford has hinted similar. I can't imagine VW won't follow. Collectively they have the clout to tell the EU to shove it EVs are like the emperors new clothes. Everyone seems to realise its never going to work but nobody wants to be the first to come out say so. -

It appears they have already anticipated that probability and are going to counter it by steadily cranking up the road tax on older models year on year until people think its not worth it -
Nobody checks who is eligible and who isn't

Yes it really is. The US is 28.3 Trillion dollars in debt. Quite a slice of that is down to Trump's last term in office and his mismanagement of the economy and the covid crisis. To be fair though the Biden administration did absolutely nothing to reduce the debt. If Trump thinks he is going to bully China with threats of tarrifs he is so wrong. China is more than able to bring down the shutters and stop selling goods to the USA. It wouldn't hurt China anything like as much as it would damage the US They are stubborn enough to actually do it. Hundreds of American industries and businesses would grind to a halt and many would go bust. Shelves would be empty. USA really is that dependent on Chinese goods
