  1. Thoughts to the victims and their friends and family. A mentalist hell bent on killing Im afraid. There seems to be one every decade; Michael Ryan, Thomas Hamilton now this evil ******* Derek Burd. Regardless of whether he was a sgc or fac holder, the public will demand tougher restrictions and the new government hve promised to get tough on knife crimes so shooters will be affected. Im quite sickened by this and to be honest has put me off going out with the gun for now. I think all border line decisions made by the police will be refused with immediate effect; ie shooters who have suffered from depression etc and have had medical help. Quite horrendous.
  2. Us Celts are Gods bairns! Well used to being the 1st into battle; after the engerlish colonised us (or tried to) we`v been pretty much thrown into battle 1st as we were deemed to be dispensable!! In fairness though there are english soldiers out fighting the taliban etc alongside the Celts and God tells me he`s keeping any eye on them too; tough lads the lot of them.
  3. Ill never go back to Hunters after my Muck Boots! Warm and comfy as slippers. Love Hunters but my feet are better suited to muck boots. Best £48 ive spent in a long while.
  4. I bought a few boxes of 32g No6 Eley High Flyer; got the **** ripped out of me because the carts are a lovely pink/purple colour! Whats that all about? Not impressed!
  5. I was there on Sunday with a mate; 100 clays shot at and counter read 142 due to traps either not firing or broken clays flying out. Explained to them afterwards ans met them half way as we had fired a clay or 2 at each trap to see where it was coming from/going. Dont have any beef and there was no problem; thought it was good value; got 100 clays and 100 carts for £28 (ie £14 each) New owners in so only fair to give them a bit of time to take advice and get running smoothly. I`ll defo go back!
  6. thanks; im new to this caper too so hope it helps!
  7. Thats exactly what I do and it works best for me- If I keep both eyes open all i see is the side of the barrel thru my left eye. I bought a fibre optic sight but that didnt help with both eyes open but when I close my left I have a brilliant guide for the clay. Keeping both open for finding clay and mounting then shutting left eye works for me
  8. you can download google your local constabulary shotgun certificate and you should find it

  10. Outlaws are 5 mins away; I live in the middle of no where so could ask but they are already very good with childcare so wouldnt want to be taking the ****!!
  11. I know...thats my only concern?? The wife only works 2 1/2 days a week so the majority of the week would be fine but thats what s putting me off.
  12. Theres new owners there now - since Dec08; Ive ju.st started but was there 2 weeks ago and every trap I was at worked, Give them a phone b4 going
  13. westlands activity centre near Annan; 20 mins from the toon (thats Dumfries) google it
  14. Im interested in getting a pup too but im away from home 8am - 6pm so will have to build a run and get a shed 1st. Want an all round gun dog/family pet so have narrowed it down to a lab or cocker spaniel. Labs are obviously well recomended but whats the views on cockers???
  15. I used to use my Heckler & Koch G3KA4 off the left side and my G3 & SG1 off the right eye
  16. Im right handed buy very left eye dominant; just started shooting shotgun and had a day shooting off right shoulder; couldnt shoot my load! BUT have been dry mounting left handed and it feels fine and I can see miles better. How long u been shooting and do you have left hand stock ? My guns a cheapy Baikal but doesnt seem to have a specific stalk ie its a mirror image so was just going to try shooting with it off my left shoulder and see what happens! We must be special- right handed but supporting those less fortunate than us!
  17. whys it on your bed??? were u giving it both barrels!!

  19. Just got a pair of muck boots - derwent - for £49 at Tarff valley Stores In Dumfries. rubber soled / neoprene upper and lined. Only got them this week but walked in them yesterday and exceptionally comfy and warm. I swithered about getting the hunter classics but for warmth and comfort alone Muck wins hands down. Obviously if i could afford to spend more on boots I would have but I had a budget and took 2 months to decide on my wellies!! My wife says im a sad bassa!!
  20. meant £1000 a sq.metre doh!!! BCIS tables for insurance purposes are generally higher than build cost so dont give a realistic price.
  21. Excluding plot price - 100 sq.metre assuming that all works done by approved contractors and finishes to a reasonably high standard. Im a building surveyor and until you have a full set of approved plans, specification and a thorough minor works contract not just loaded with provisional sums then take this as a budget guide. Obviously until you have a full contract spec put together and priced then this is just a guide but a realistic one because you always spend more than you think! Good luck
  22. sorry folks; went to the 2nd page and saw thread on hanging pheasants DOH! Feel free to add any advice or Mr MOD just delete
  23. New to this so bare with me; Shot 2 pheasants on saturday and hung them by their necks in the shed. Had planned on skinning them on Tuesday night but with work etc havnt got round to it yet. Am planning on doing tonight. The weathers been mild- 7/8 celcius during day. Had a quick sniff this morning before going to work and they seem fine. Just looking for some info ie is it better to hang by feet or heid? They are older cocks so does the meat get stronger the longer they hang and if so are they liable to be minging after hanging for near a week? Whats the general preferred hanging length? Cheers
