  5. Hi all, I'm looking for a greylag goose call, we have more and more coming into the area now and wanted to get some kit together and get practising before the 1st September. I would like a simple to use call and have been looking at the DJ greylag call but can't find any reviews on the net, what do you fella's think of this call? The geese will be coming down onto stubble fields. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.
  6. +1 for the Icotec GC350, been using mine for 2 years now. Also great after sales from bestfoxcall.
  7. I would say Norma for factory ammo, the 120gr ballistic tip and 140gr partition both shoot very well in my 6.5x55.
  8. Funny how many franchi's you see for sale, hardly used says most of the adverts. But you don't see many M2's for sale Second hand.
  9. I live 3 miles away and it still shook the Windows, and a very loud bang.
  10. I'm after a new phone, I don't want a smart phone with a touch screen, just something tough that I can make calls send text and a half decent camera 3-5mp. Thanks VV.
  11. The scumbags have also been out here in York, it makes you wonder if these people have any morals whatsoever.
  12. I think it's more about your pattern than the decoys in in, the birds will soon let you know if your pattern doesn't look right to them. I just use standard shells and then build up the pattern with the shot birds and are averaging 70 birds a outing from my last 8 outings. As the great Archie Coats said " think like a pigeon". Regards VV
  13. I have got a Icotec 350 and I'm very pleased with it, one thing with all these callers is don't get fooled by sales hype into thinking you will need 100+ sounds, I use about 6 or 7. The main thing is that the caller is easy to program and the remote is simple to use.
  14. I get 50p in the feather from a couple of gastro pubs and 75p from a local butcher for pigeon crowns, the pubs can take up to 50 each but the butcher will only take up to 21 at a time as he likes to sell them fresh and not from the freezer he sells them in packs of 3 for £4.50.
  15. I always try and get the farmers mobile numbers and then every so often send a group text along the lines of " have they see much about or are any fields been hit".It does seem to work quite well and usually get a reply from at least one about pigeons or rabbits and they can also keep me informed when fields have been sown and harvested without me spending hours driving around.
  16. I shot over a rape field that had been destroyed by pigeons over winter last month and had bags of 101 and 41, anyway the farmer sent me a text on Wednesday to say that the pigeons had started feeding on the secondary regrowth and could be worth having another bash at them, to be honest I didn't think I'd see much sport but went on Thursday morning, there was plenty of birds about and was all set up at 10am, and then they started coming 60 by 11am, 100 by 12pm. at 1pm I went back to the truck for 3 boxes of cartridges I had in there and ran out of cartridges at 2pm 166 pigeons and 1 crow for 250 shots ( I only took a slab with me) . What a day.
  17. +1 for the 6.5x55, I've had other cals including .308 .243 and used 30/06 .270 and 25/06. The 25/06 is a good round but it can be a little hard on roe but then again most calibers can be if shot placement is off.
  18. Well done, 118 is a great day as today's wind was a real challenge, I was out shooting over some spring barley and picked 60 pigeons and 4 crows.
  19. I'm in North Yorkshire so even the non pigeon damaged areas of the rape fields are only 6" high, and now all the spring drilling seems to have stopped, the pigeons are back on the rape. The birds yesterday came in well, they were on the field when I arrived at 8.30am and kept coming in two's and three's until 3pm.
  20. I've been out again today and had a great day with a bag of 65 over some oil seed rape, but I have a very special piece of kit, a magic flask! I'm not kidding one moment there's not a pigeon too be seen but all I have to do is pour a coffee from my flask and the little rascals are everywhere. Has any one else noticed this phenomena?
