  1. they list some animals on there being shot, but most on the list is legal species anyway tree rats, fox,and deer so this puzzles me, as for shooting dogs, cats and so on is just wrong. as for the caged birds, the law sees it ok to do this with chickens for the food chain so whats the difference
  2. i had a .25 rapid mk2 also, set at 64 ft lbs. As said by others the power level is far more tan what is required for tree dwelling critters, i used mine for 50 to 75 yard rabbits which was awesome, but the cost of the gun, charging gear, pellets and so on you my as well just go down the rimfire route. i sold my rapid set up which funded me a second hand .22 rimmie, second hand hmr combo and a cheap 12g.. imo good quality airguns are way too expensive for what they are, if i where you i would just buy a .22 rimmie and a nice cheap springer for tree work like a hw or tx200. if you buy a rapid at high power i would go down the fast flow route instead of messing with regs.. atb 12.
  3. hi, if you where in s/yorks your chances would be zero, they would just say buy a sub 12 airgun if you require it that much. some forces will vary though. i had to give two letters of competence, two fresh plots of land to be cleared and a letter from a mentor who also had a open ticket.. but hay, you never know. good luck. you never know unless you ask.
  4. magpie decoys never seem to work for me unless i mix them up a bit with crows, i normally use a dead rabbit with the crow deeks around the rabbit with the magpie deeks off set to the side or up in a nearby bush or tree. try using a small owl deek to annoy the magpies.
  5. Thats the biggest problem i had, some farmers just didnt want to get involved with the police, also i get asked to sort out rabbit problems on land that once the numbers are cut down i might only need to visit the land a couple of times a year to keep on top making it not worth trying to have it cleared. just this year alone i bet i have turned down 5 permissions or gave them to lads who already had open tickets.
  6. im with kdr on this one. one thing i do is not set the deeks as i do on rape or other crops, i tend to just random scatter the deeks and not bother with v or u shape patterns, seems to work better for me.
  7. i would say no to the 12ftlb airgun, i have shot 100s over the years and sometimes seen an hare run and not die a nice death even with a 22lr and 12g. a 12ftlb airgun can kill a human but i dont think the armed responce or army would try to do so. its like the question of debate, 12g AAAS for deer! 99% will say rifle only. Thats my opinion anyway.
  8. my open ticket landed today, . it took 2 applications, 2 letters of competence, two fresh permissions for clearance and a letter from a mentor with an open ticket already. thanks again to my mentor which i will not name off here. it took some getting but well pleased now. happy days.
  9. it dont help that the difference today as from the last generation is that everything is so expensive, tax , vat ,food , clothes and so on, back in the so called day you could fill the morris miner with fuel, fill the cupboards with food and dress your kids like little tramps all for a 1/4 of the weekly wage? now just to fill the familys bellys for the week costs 150 quid.
  10. now science has come along way, how do people pay for cancer treatment and alike, thats why we all have to pay our way cos all treatments no one could afford alone, unless your saying if you cant afford it then you dont get it? And as for young familys, if they all stopped having kids now cos they cant afford to raise them then in 20years time there would be no british population as all young worker would be from abroard, more than what it is now. :yp: i dont recieve any benefits at all as im lucky enough to have a good trade but i feel for people like leeds chimp..

  12. i take it you have a sperm count issue and dont have kids which in turn will pay there tax and ni just like we have... :yp: And as for grandalfs reply, some poor ****** payed there tax and ni for your mother to give birth to you, thats unless you where manufactured where someone would have worked for peanuts...
  13. i have used a couple of owl decoys this year to bring them within range, a good cart is needed though. oh, not 100% but i think your u caller is not allowed for birds but a manual ( mouth ) one is good luck.
  14. on the other hand, i would write out a well informed letter on what you do and what you can offer them, put things like how long you been shooting, insured , who else you may shoot for ect. make the letter look as professional as possible. use the spell checker too. as i always need it :yp: post them off, write them down on a sheet of paper. give 1 week to ten days for them to ponder over it then call at a good time of day. in the evening when there not too busy. they just ask if they have read your letter and can you help them out. this works best for me. not saying its the best way but it works, and like the others said, stock up on fine wine and scotch for sweeteners. where you from? i can pm you a rough letter i post out for you to edit to your needs. mike.
  15. i agree but the difference now is with our governments the forces are just political chess pieces and are used in unjust combat for profits and not for our countrys security.
  16. its just a shame they never kicked in banks doors, 10 downing street and alike instead of small family shops and beat up old folk... :yp:
  17. dont give up, in the years i have been shooting not once have i gained any land by knocking on farm doors, i dont think they like folk bothering them when there busy. i now have 6 permissions all gained by letters. write everything you can offer on the letter and put on the letter info about you on there too. The farmers and land owners can be very piccy when letting strangers on there land. i had a call from a farmer a month ago offering land for pigeon control only to find he kept my letter for about 12 months in his file before requiring my services. once one permission is gained it get easier as you can just see the farmer next door stating you already shoot for joe bloggs and would do his land two.. most of my shoots all link up together this way so makes it easier to follow the pigeons rather than waiting for them to hit your fields. one way my friend gains shooting is to drive round the country side listening for automatic gas bangers, once these are located you know already they have problems with pigeons and though makes it easier to gain the land.
  18. its a shame we as a nation dont riot and protest more, only things of values and unjust rip offs from our so called peoples government. we should express are feeling more when we get ripped off with things like, vat, fuel prices, immigration, council tax, energy prices, the unjust deployment of our countrys finest in iraq and afganistan only to mention a few that get my blood boiling. instead of just bending over and accepting whats given to us. i know last years riots where for the wrong reasons and that innocent people where hurt and and propertys damaged but they shown an example that when we unite we must be heard. rant over...
  19. andy is always helpful and gives discount to regs too, on the other hand i phoned redbeck last month wanting to buy an ns200 which they said they had one and would save it till the next morning for me only to find it was an ns50 but seemed like a genuine mistake, i would rather travel to the next county than go euroguns.
  20. i know of a lad who spent over a grand on a rapid7 combo then asked if he could sight it in on there range before taking it home, the robbing ******** charged him 5 quid to do so... after lining there pockets with over 1k, shocking... also someone off this forum went to buy a 223 advertised on there web site only to find it was sold months before !! shooters world all the way for me. mexborough.
  21. cheers chaps i have always known theres no savings to be gained from standard loads, and even if it cost me slightly more than the shops i probably would still do it but not at the cost i have priced from the above, i will check out siarm like whats suggested and do my adding up again see if its still worth it. cheers.
  22. when i read the threads header i expected a story about a court battle with the ex for custody, not to read the mother had pasted. so sorry for your loss and the childrens, you will manage well in time. all you can do is just be a good dad and the rest will happen on its own. good luck fella.
  23. hi, i have thinking of reloading my own 12g, i know there is no money to be saved as i was going to do it as a pastime and the satisfaction of shooting my own carts. but after pricing up some tackle from shotgun reloading.co.uk the price works out more than buying a slab from the shop or am i missing something 250 primers = 9.50 1/2 kg of powder = 19.50 250 b+p wads = 10 10kg of shot = 37 + 6 p/p . i know i will get around 350 28g loads from 10kg of shot but i can buy decent pigeon loads at 40 quid a slab  altogether 82 quid without buying the cases where dont my maths add up or is this standard pricing, if so then i will give it a miss i think, at least until lead shot is banned anyway. cheers.
