    wormers

These need to legally sold from a registered licensed premises by a suitably qualified person. That is even assuming they are genuine.
  2. Sorry, but even giving prescription medicine away is against the law.
  3. Not grey in any way, shape or form. If the person has a certificate stating that the land must be cleared by the police, then it is a firearms offence shooting there if the land has not been cleared by the police. Crystal clear.
  4. It seems the police clear land up to the calibre requested. To me this seems madness - clearing land up to .222 and then having to look again if you change for a 22-250! You need permission to shoot land upon renewal, but that doesn't have to be given in writing.
  5. The issue comes with existing conditions. To claim you will need a full history from a puppy. If any problem has been noted (puppy little lame from over doing it noted at second vaccination, for example) can mean they refuse to pay out for arthritis 10 years later. You don't even have to go specifically for the problem, it can just be mentioned to the vet and put in the notes. I've seen it so many times.
  6. Yes it is. To recommend a particular insurance product then you fall under all sorts of bureaucratic financial services regulations. Some vets have staff trained by a particular company to the required standards and are also a limited scope insurance salesperson. Vets are limited to giving general advice about insurance. The simple rule is to look at cover limits, whether the condition is covered for life and if the company is reputable. Once you take out insurance you are stuck with the company for life (unless very lucky and never need to go to the vets for anything) so pick right. You can't swap and change. Also read the small print - I can't think I've ever had a genuine claim refused, but have had many refused when people have gone against the T&Cs. Most common are time to report issues, vaccinations up to date, pre-existing conditions, or work not covered (eg dental or special foods).
  7. Once the tartar has formed there is little you can do. The tartar you see is not a problem, it's the effects under the gum-line that cause problems. Cracking it off with bones or other methods won't improve oral health - even if the teeth look a bit better. Generally the dog needs a general anaesthetic and thorough descale and polish. Only then should you attempt brushing. Once the tartar has formed it's too late. Please avoid anything that can damage the enamel (scrapers, files) as they roughen the surface of the teeth and actually promote further tartar.
  8. Can they refuse to check land? Honestly? I'd speak to your shooting organisation. Have you done your DSC level 1? It shows that you are serious about deer and have been independently assessed on gun safety - a box the FEO needs to tick.
  9. Never dealt with them, so no comment.
  10. You can swap a .22 air rifle for a 50cal if you can justify it FOC. This also applies to slots granted, but unfilled. Yes
  11. Fennmann - who is the underwriter for your policy? BASC offer discounted Pet Plan policies. Of all the vets I knwo who have insured dogs, all of them use Pet Plan.

  14. "for the protection of my hearing (health & safety)" If they grant you the gun I have NEVER heard of even the most unreasonable police force refusing the grant of an accompanying moderator. Put down one per gun.
  15. I have a couple of cheap electronic safes. Yours (with the hole) is a damn sight more secure than mine. Have you seen the potato video?
  16. 1. Using a gun not conditioned for the purpose. 2. Legally you MUST inform the police within 24 hours. They are the two that leap out to me. [As an side if someone shot my dog I would throw as much **** back at them as I possibly could. Get a decent lawyer on the case - can you prove it was my dog? Do you have your rifle conditioned for that etc?
  17. My wife has a Barbour wax that she has had for 16 years and is as good as new. Gets it re-proofed every couple of years. I have a Barbour wax that is 5 years old and is about ready for its first re-wax. It doesn't matter if a coat costs a bit of money if it will last that long, I've had cheap waxes that have gone in the bin after a year. They have a repair service. English production of wax coats (some are made abroad). I have modern coats, but if absolutely lashing down or fighting through thorns and brambles nothing lasts like a proper wax jacket. I wouldn't pay that money for a fashion coat.
  18. D3 very good off road. Ground clearance not an issue, I do jack up the suspension from time to time, but rarely need to.
  19. The simple fact seemingly ignored from all these discussions - the pheasants or partridges (once released) are wild birds. They do not belong to anyone. You can perfectly legally tempt them onto your own land by placing feeder on your boundary. Wild animals can eat wild animals. Granting a licence to control buzzards to protect a wild bird released in such naturally unsustainable numbers is never going to happen. It's pretty obvious really. Maybe shooters and those offering shooting ought to look at the numbers of birds released and consider the sustainability of it all. Something is badly wrong when to get the birds to simply live they have to be filled with various medicines (fundamentally due to over stocking and poor husbandry). When you talk to shooters who went game shooting 20/30 years ago the bags were nothing like they are now. I suspect everything would be done better with fewer birds released and a focus on quality rather than quantity of birds.
  20. You need to request the moderators as additional firearms, but there is no reason you can't have them. As said you need two refs.
  21. The lateral suture technique is very cost effective and does have a success rate comparable to the more expensive procedures! In the case of failure you are only left with the dog as it was before the op. If the complex ops with screws and metalwork fail then you have problems. I personally know a good number of dogs back in normal work after cruciate surgery. It's important to build up the exercise - not do nothing for 6 weeks post op. You need to maintain and build muscle strength. Swimming is great but not always available. The majority of cruciate problems are caused by age related degeneration in dogs, so it is common for the other knee to go. There is not an insurance company in the world that would pay for the 2nd op if the policy was started after the first!
  22. I have one. D3 commercial. Has 175,000+ on the clock They do have common problems (air compressor, EGR valves (blankable), clutches (upgraded version now), etc. They are brilliant cars. There are better vehicles for going off road, and better cars for driving fast on the motorway - but nothing (other than perhaps the D4!) can do everything so well, whilst feeling like you are floating on air and sitting in an armchair.
  23. If I was a farmer and I had the rifle to protect my lambs from foxes the good reason still exists. If all the rabbits die from VHD do I have to hand my gun back? What if I go to Africa every 10 years with my 375 H&H? In terms of live quarry I can't see any requirement in the rules to do a minimum prescribed amount of shooting, just that good reason continues to exist. If your good reason for a deer rifle was a paid stalk, and you had nothing further booked I could see that being a difficult situation to justify.
  24. Good reason doesn't have to = usage. Not if the good reason remains. Two of our vets will never have any ammo listed on their certificates. (see the example of my farmer friend not shooting a bullet in 6 years and having no trouble with renewal)
  25. 10.52 Applications for renewal provide the opportunity for reviewing the circumstances of each case and the extent to which the provisions of the Act have been complied with by the holder of the certificate and by persons supplying them with firearms and ammunition. If the applicant’s circumstances have changed materially since the original grant or last renewal, for example in their opportunities to use their firearms, special care will need to be taken to ensure that the applicant still satisfies all criteria for the possession of firearms and ammunition. These matters can be discussed and/or reviewed by phone/email or during a personal visit, inspection or interview. Where the chief officer of police decides to refuse an application for a renewal of a certificate, they may wish to consider personal service of the notice, whenever practicable. Informing the applicant of this decision will give them an opportunity to discuss the matter and will help to reduce the number of appeals to the Crown Court. This applies equally to notices of revocation. (See paragraph 10.71) 13.24 Those involved in shooting vermin will normally be authorised to possess up to 750 rounds 13.25 Those involved in shooting foxes will normally be authorised to possess up to 250 rounds, but consideration should be given to each shooter’s individual circumstances I have 250 rounds listed for my 22-250, I won't get through that many between renewals. I'd be surprised if I got through that many with any of my CFs. Does this mean I should have lower limits? I read a lot of the guidance and so long as you have 'good reason' then you can have a decent ammo allowance. I can't see anywhere they expect you to justify your ammo allowance as a quantity that you will shoot in a defined period.
