  1. Wash your mouth out Mr Ghost !!! everything here is above board and genuine, im popping over to meet farmer Dave tomorrow afternoon :-)
  2. if you want to buy it check out the online gundog retailer 'sporting saint' however in my honest opinion as others have said it is a waste of time and can be a negative training point leading to a confused dog mark
  3. Fergie ive read the replies to your post and whilst not wanting to cause an argument i will say this : Vizslas are one of the most versatile breeds in existence. whilst my Vizslas arnt pets per se they are my closest work companions they perform their tasks with a 100% effort and give unwavering service in hunting pointing and retrieving , rough shooting , wildfowling, formal picking up , sat in a pigeon hide for hours ( tho i do let them retrieve the birds each half hour or so) field trials and working tests and im about to introduce the youngest to deer tracking. they are quick to learn and fun to be with so long as you get your training right you wont be disapointed mark
  4. try the permission wanted section tad more appropriate than here !! also lse your email address yu never know wh will get hold of it
  5. hi kent my first paragraph was for you as in my honnest opinion i dont agree that hpr's are easier to train than spaniels, the rest was a guide to andy to get his dog back on track using a proven method that has worked on mine and many other hpr's that ive trained. :-)
  6. well done chris nice to hear you actually hit a snipe at last :-)
  7. Kent are you for real i take it this quote was a joke right ?? Andy i train for work and field trial Hungarian Vizslas, having won numerous awards in competitions and succsefully picking up and shooting over them. I can see where your coming from and have had the exact same problem my self with one of my dogs. it takes about 3 years to fully train a vizsla and at nearly 2 years you have by the sounds of it come on a long way, however you need to reinforce who is in charge of this relationship as vizsla's go through several independant stages in their development. initially i suggest you get him to focus on you , go back to basics, each time you go some where with him on the lead you go first ie thro a door , gate, room make him sit you go first it shows your in charge. secondly when you let him off the lead sit him, remove the lead and keep him sitting then only let him go when he looks into your eyes asking permision, it will take a few minutes to start but he will son catch on. all this reinforces your the pack leader and he needs to focus on you for permision to do things. next step will be to reinforce the stop whistle, do not stand for him disobeying it. initially start off close by then build up the distance. dont put him in a position to fail (as in other dogs) until you are sure he will stay put then when you think he is ready when out walking you spot somebody with dogs approaching blow your stop whistle make he sits, until they have all passed then praise him for staying its amazing how quick they catch on, remember vizsla's are very inteligent dogs very skillfull in mastering hunting pointing and retrieving but can easily be spoilt by owners who in their ignorance dont know how to treat this special breed. if you want look up a dog trainer from the west country who specialises in HPR's then Steve Kimberly is well worth visiting. or if ever your down hampshire way id be happy to show you the ropes best wishes mark
  8. Hi folks ive a single shot dummy launcher by bumper boy but ive lost the remote transmitter for it, its the old style one not the new style updated version. i was wondering if anyone had one for sale or if theres anyone who knows if theres an alternative to adapt a differant type of transmitter that could be used
  9. i use nosler bt in 120 in my 6.5 for fox they expand quick and make quite an effective job tho i would never use them on deer as damage would be too great
  10. I shot quite a few when i used to live in New Zealand and can honestly say they were as tough as old boots and would prefer to eat cannada goose than them !!
  11. have a look on the for sale section theres some being given away including an amazing hutch in kent
  12. Thought provoking discussion, Ive been shooting for well over 30 years and have always lived in the countryside. On the shoot i help out on there are a large number of buzzards and quite a few red kites. Last year whilst feeding the poults i did witness a buzzard departing with a poult wether it killed it or indeed it was already dead i will know not (id lost a half a dozen that day to gapes)out of one of the pens. I put cd's on dispaly and also bought several little radios and had radio 4 ( so there was a constant stream ofhuman voices) i believe this really helped aas i havnt seen anymore entering the pens.and losses remained relatively low. In hampshire at the moment the rabbit population has soared over recent years and i believe this, not the pheasants has been a major factor in the buzzrds growth. Just the other day at the bottom of my garden i saw a buzzard land on a full grown rabbit fly upwards with it whilst the rabbit was still screaming and kicking untill it was about 20 foot of the ground whereby the buzzard let it go, and all this was withing 20 yards of a feeding pheasant. I'm an ardent believer in predator control and habbitat management but i for one have no wish and will never target raptors, but motorist who take delight in running pheasants and partridge over ........
