  1. Hi fella, I shoot on private [rural] gardens for free. But I get rewards in coffee and cake/biscuits, sandwiches, sometimes a plate of dinner Also fruit 'n veg etc. Sometimes asking for money offends, so either do it as a favour or not at all, just my opinion Whichever, it's a good question atb Chris
  2. Well done fella Now go out and enjoy the spoils atb Chris
  3. Glad to be of some help Forgot to say, also try cricket clubs, or sports clubs in general. Basically anywhere that could be affected by pests and wouldn't be suitable for powder-burners A mate of mine has a permission on a schools grounds, and so the list goes on,,,, Like you say, thinking outside the box may help. atb, Chris
  4. Superb pic's Doc Also you were extremely lucky to be able to take those shots, so well done Chris
  5. Hi Nobby, there is a place for airgun pest control. It isn't necessary to have a SGC or FAC except on the bigger farms etc Have you tried looking for fruit growers [season might be over for some], organic vegetable growers, small-holdings, horse stables/paddocks, large private houses surrounded by farmland/crops? All these will have pests etc, and lend themselves to sub 12 [silent] airguns There's a myriad of places out there, you just need to be in the right place etc, to get your foot in the door I shoot near Canterbury, in private gardens and paddocks, and an organic veggie farm, and would love to offer you some shooting time, but I've only had the permissions a short while, and the LO's will only let me on there for now. I've asked to take a guest now and then, but no joy I'm afraid, and I fully respect that. But from one permission, I've now got seven [all very small] and an adjacent crop field edge so don't give up trying. Another tip is to ask , subtly of course, or drop into conversations, everyone you meet in your line of work, if there is even a sniff of a possibilty. If I get anything larger myself, invites will be out to the right people but I'm not holding my breath on more just yet! Anyway, good luck in your search, and hope I've helped in some way atb, Chris
  6. Upping the the numbers is a great idea, but,,,, trust me when I say that most [probably] of fisheries that currently shoot cormorants under licence, shoot many more than they're supposed to So upping the number on the licence sounds great, but in reality wouldn't actually realise more being shot, except where the numbers shot per licence are adhered to. As for every T, R and H wanting to shoot them, even if they're not causing a problem? Answer: the cormorant will only be found in/on/around rivers/lakes etc except when flying [at high level' ie: out of shotgun range], which is about the only time they'e not causing a problem. When on the water, they are extremely difficult to shoot, and with FAC being the most suitable to do this, the environment has to be made safe [busy fishery or one with properties close by]. They do also land in prominent trees, but again shooting into trees with FAC is very rare, so this again limits the "shooting opportunities". FAC air is an option, and of course shotguns, but again safe shooting prevails. So every T,R and H might want to shoot them, but probably can't. I shoot on a bit of land next to the Kentish Stour which is a trout fishery, with some general course fish species aswell. This short stretch, 1/3 mile long and max 5yds wide and max 5ft deep, is visited regularly by a pair of these pests [mild description!]. I spend many an hour sitting on the bankside marvelling at the abundant wildlife while waiting for rabbits to show, and only see large or tiny [fry sized] fish in the clear water. So they've just about cleaned out this stretch, and probably those either side [about 3 miles of quiet river] of all small medium sized fish I'm also a member of a large fishing club with our own waters [owned by the club/members] and our fish stocks are regularly plundered by many cormorants. They are shot regularly under licence but not on sight. Each lake has to be closed, checked that no one is there, gates locked [with a seperate shooters only lock] and signs put up. Even then, shots can only be taken in certain directions because of neighbouring houses/properties etc. And this is done only about 4 or six times a year, so many are not shot and get to come back another day, and/or visit more lakes and rivers in the area. IMO they just need to be put on the GL, a decision which can be rescinded whenever "they" choose. This will just make it easier to shoot, without going through all the red tape involved now getting the relevant licence. TBH I don't think many more will be shot where they're being controlled already, but it will open up other areas, with safe responsible shooting of course Also, the suggested daily intake and size of fish these birds eat is greatly under estimated! By a long way!!! They also stab out at fish much larger than they could possibly eat, causing damage and sometimes suffering and a lingering death
  7. Mine is a Tench Reg and I watched Simon do it, and he tweaked some other bits at the same time [don't ask me what, I'm not into the tech side TBH ] There are other mods that can be done, but this adds severely to the cost, but still make a better gun even better,,,, if that's possible My reg works at 90 bar, so as long as there is above that in the cylinder, it fires a full power shot
  8. The regulator only releases enough air to just fire each pellet with very little waste. Therefore being super efficient with the air in the original cylinder I can get through 8 mags [80 shots] easily on the range, before I notice any dropping off of power
  9. When the reg is done, the gun is set up from scratch. So you can choose a power setting to suit your choice of pellet, erring on the safe [legal] side of 12ft/lbs of course. Bear in mind that your Ultra may choose itself a different pellet, but more testing is par for the course. You might be lucky and it'll stay the same. My Ultra was set at 11.6 with AA Fields I think, but I'm using Falcon Accuracy Plus [.22] and it's putting out 10.6/10.8ft/lbs. This isn't a problem and knocks bunnies over with ease at up to 45/50yds max [if conditions allow] Any more questions atb Chris
  10. As this guy says, an un-regged Ultra only fill to 190bar to keep the sweet spot A regged Ultra can be filled to 230/235bar quite safely.
  11. The regulator does what it says, regulates the amount of air released per shot. Give or take a nanno, it works out the same each time you press the trigger. Therefore making it much more efficient than the standard gun. You get approx 80/90 good shots per 235 bar fill compared to around 30 good shots from the standard. The power is set at approx 11.5 [or what ever you've asked for] when the reg is done, and the result is +/-7 ft/sec [approx] per shot string I've had mine done now for about 16 months and never had a problem Well worth the money IMHO atb Chris

Good man After all, that's what it's made for,,,, not mixing in with your "donald"

Ok, just for future reference,,,, Modern addatives/plasticisers do work. One of the best makes is Cementone, especially for bricklaying and rendering solutions. But most makes of addative/plasticiser will add some benefit to most mortars. It all depends on the sand type [quarry source] and cement used. Some work together and some don't, so don't write one off just because it doesn't work in your mix. And DON'T USE WASHING UP LIQUIDS/DETERGENTS!!! HTH,,,,, this message will self destruct in 10 seconds,,, 9,,,8,,,7,,,

Cheers for the offer Jon, but I'm a pop gun [air] shooter only Would that be at JJ's or Church lane? I could throw a stone out of my back garden into JJ's Anyway,,,, Like I said on a previous reply,,,,, you need ballast. One jumbo bag [ton bag] roughly mixes to 0.6M cubed. So work out the volume of your footings and go from there. You'll need Ordinary Portland [paper bags] cement, approx 7/jumbo bag.

I can sense a "Westminster Smudge" on it's way Only kidding Jon The bricks from Wickes are probably Ibstocks or similar anyway. Just take your time and don't add too much water to the mix, and only add the plasticiser if it's really needed. You'll know if it's needed As you build, if the previous mortar joint starts "oozing out" slow down. If I was closer I'd pop over and start you off You say you've ordered pea shingle? Should be 20mm ballast mate Pea is too fine for the base. Anyway, you've got some courage to DIY so good luck. Chris
