Timps, I think your advice is going to fall on deaf ears Hope I'm proved wrong, but not going to hold my breath on it,,,, for xx amount of time anyway :yp: Just glad the OP has listened to the genuine advice atb
  3. Great write-up mate, I was almost there beside you But it wasn't me who hid your glove Brilliant result too, but going with expectations often makes for disappointment,,,, or not in your case atb Chris

Ok Jon, for the concrete you'll need just ballast and Ordinary Portland cement,,,, NO ADDATIVES The amount I can't tell you. But per volume [M cubed] a ton bag is approx 0.6M cubed when mixed. A 5/1 mix will be ok for your purposes. Again not too wet as it could shrink and crack with too much water in the mix. The amount of cement req/bulk bag of building sand, I'd say 10 bags is plenty, and it sounds like you'll need it for other things if it's too much anyway Is the whole wall being built out of eng. bricks and conc. blocks? If so, then a 4/1 mix throughout will be ok. Only a 3/1 if it's just the capping bricks that are eng. Try the mix without extra plasticiser first, if it's not ok then add just a little of the extra one. Let us know how you get on, and get some pic's up of it when finished ATB Chris

Thankyou for that timps The air entrainment detail I left out, as the OP only needs to know which cement [with no extra addatives] to use. In fact, it's not always a good idea to use plasticisers when laying engineering bricks, but in warm weather just a little bit, which is in the Mastercrete atb
  6. Hi fella, I've got one in .22 flavour and it's a great little gun, never had a problem with it. The cocking method is unique and does take some getting used to, but don't let that put you off. You ask about problems with barrels? BSA barrels have a good reputation as far as I'm aware. The Ultra is commonly called a good ratting gun, ie good in tight spaces. To me it's light, pointable and dependable And no, I don't have shares in BSA ATB Chris

You've obviously not used the good plasticisers then fella?! You keep on using "FAIRY" in your mix on your £M houses  Anyway, I'm not having an argument with someone who obviously has very limited experience in the building game And most cements don't have addatives/plasticisers, which are suitable for the OP's task. To the OP,,,, PLEASE don't use washing up liquid, it has things in it that shouldn't be in your mortar. Mastercrete has addatives in it that ARE suitable for your task. As I said, use a 3/1 sand/cement mix, or the weakest 4/1, and don't mix it up too wet Add water slowly to achieve a stiff mix, just wet and workable enough for those bricks. Too wet and things get messy very quickly HTH regards Chris PS. Knowledge freely given from over 30yrs brick-laying experience
  8. Congratulations Mr crowbasher It's funny how you get some permissions. I got my first [and consequently six more] through my barber [in New Eltham ] Enjoy it mate,,,, happy days atb Chris

    Blue Bricks

Hi Jon, are these what you're after? http://www.ibstock.com/highlights-brick-selector.asp?colour=blue&type=&texture=Smooth&size= Basically they're a semi-engineering brick. Used for wall cappings/copings [brick on edge], soldier courses over doorways etc. They come perferated [with holes] and solid. The solid ones I usually use on the open ends of wall cappings, so there isn't an ugly finish. As has been said, 50p ish each, probably £1 ish for solids. Now available at your local friendly builders merchants probably HTH Chris EDIT; Please use a 3/1 or at least a 4/1 sand/cement mortar or what cockercas said will happen [frost damage!]

Hi Matt, my offer is still on the table But every few hours will drop by a pound  Only kidding cheers Chris
  12. Hi Paul, as others have said, you could easily pop down to a gun shop and buy a gun/scope combo quite cheaply, but things aren't that simple. There are certain laws that cover your "garden problem", and you should be made aware of these. Doing all you can to try and scare off the pigeons [feral pigeons I assume?] was a good thing and shooting is always the last resort. The main legislation regarding the shooting of birds is found in the General Licence here http://www.basc.org.uk/en/shooting/general-licences.cfm Then there's laws covering the actual shooting with an airgun, which can be found here www.basc.org.uk Hope that is of some help, and any more questions don't hesitate to ask, and someone on here is sure to know the answer regards Chris

Hi Matt, I will offer you £15,,, incl postage? regards Chris
  14. Yes it definately can  Which is why I always take a couple of practice shots to confirm the POI, as I suggested to the OP
  15. That's what I thought! But after shooting two pigeons with hold under, found they'd been hit low  So a practice shot found I had to shoot with hold over. All shots were near vertical, re: 75-85deg, at which there is almost zero gravity pulling the pellet down away from its trajectory. That's how it was for me So at vertical, 90deg, it's just guess-work, but practice shots always show you the true path atb Chris
  16. Hi Ian, the best advice I was given was to take a couple of practice shots [with safety in mind of course] into a/the tree you intend to target. Aim at a leaf or an obvious branch, and see where your pellet hits in line with your reticles mildots/aim points. Try it at different angles if possible, as you'll be surprised where the pellet hits. The above advice is true, but,,, from 45deg and above you have to hold over I've done some near vertical pigeon shooting recently, with my .177 HW100, and had to hold over up to an inch! It's just like shooting "on the flat", practice, practice and some more Hope that helps Chris
  17. ****SOLD**** Got these going spare if anyone can make use of them **** TWO PIECE WEAVER/DOVETAIL ADAPTOR SOLD **** ****ALL SOLD, CHEERS**** Chris Edited; ALL SOLD
  18. Yeah, don't give up fella I searched for 18 months with no results. Then a trip to the barbers  has resulted in seven small permissions Try asking everyone [subtly of course] that you meet. ATB Chris
  19. Here's another link which shows the basic idea of pellet trajectory etc. http://www.arld1.com/trajectory.html HTH Chris
  20. Hi Dan, you're obviously a good shot, hitting the head of a pigeon consistantly like that I'd suggest just aim slightly lower, at the neck. This drops them without all the flapping you get from a headshot, which is quite usual. I've had them fly some distance with headshots, .177 and .22 sub 12fpe. Anywhere between the head and crop is a good aim point atb Chris
  21. With winter on its way, why not treat yourself to a new jacket. I have for sale, a Deben 10X reversible [waterproof] camo jacket. As far as I know these are no longer available, despite being a good seller. It was in their [No.26 2010/2011] catalogue, with a "limited stock" badge. Size is XL but fits my slim frame with plenty of room to move about, and for more clothing in the winter. It's a very warm jacket with several useful pockets. The sleeves are zip removeable so it can be worn as a body-warmer. The material is the silent kind, and it is very comfortable to wear. Bought on a whim and not really wanted. This has never been worn outside, and could be described as "mint". Original cost was £70. I'm asking ****SOLD**** incl p&p [NO OFFERS] paypal best suited. Jacket sent on cleared funds. Advertised on other "shooting" sites aswell. Cheers Chris
  22. Got one of these:- http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/540/102942/bsa-tactical-casemat-48-inch-728 for sale. It's in good, but used condition, with a small hole in one side, and a bit of dust inside. This has never been used as a mat, just as a gun case. SOLD If you want pic's, I can email them. Also for sale elsewhere. Cheers for looking. Chris
