  3. been watching a field of rape for the past 2 weeks, and theres been a steady build up of numbers appearing tbe feeding on it for the best part of the day.the only way you can get at these birds is getting the farmer to plant me some bales in the middle of the field., which he duly obliged earlier in the week. saturday has came so had the rain and not a breath of wind. i waited till 10.30 for the rain to ease and off i went.on turning up about 100 birds were busy feeding and very reluctant to leave. i set up a net in the front of the bale hide set up the rotary with 2 birds out of the freezer and 4 plastics and set back for the battle to comnence. birds came immediately and did so for the next 3 hrs in groups of between 5-10. every bird determined to fet in the deeks. pulled sticks at 2.45 and picked up 115 .. been a while since i, ve had birds so detemined to get on the deeks even after a shot birds kept coming to the deeks from about 150 yds away . lets hope this is the start of a good winter.
  4. still might be worth ago, ive had afew good bags on recently ploughed stubbles

  9. ive found its quite low on there menu but saying that afew years ago i did have 2 back to back days on oats totalling over 300 birds
  10. bit the bullet yesterday as heavy rain was forecast on and off allday. decided to go at 12.30 setting up on a field of flat green wheat, conditions were ideal overcast and windy,i put out the magnet with 2 birds and i was pulling woodies straight away,2.45pm and my clicker is showing 42 and still no rain.pigeons moving all day in small groups, things slowed right down at about 5.30 and i decided to pull stumps 102 picked and all dry.
  11. i think iwould be quite happy with 80 for 128, how many do you reckon to get from 128 shots? k
  12. had my usual weekend recce today, looking over cover crops and osr.nothing on maize cover crops and the first 4 fields of osr.then onto my last farm and bloody hell there was actually a couple of hundred in the trees and a good hundred busily feeding away.left em to it keep an eye for the next couple of days then fingers crossed.first birds i,ve seen on osr all winter

  14. hi rooster, had a good earrly harvest getting 3,100 plus days on rape stubble, now thats been cultivated and the wheat has been cut its definetly getting harder, birds seem to be spread out.i shot 54 on saturday on wheat stubble, going today(monday)found another wheat stubble which looks a little busy so we will see.got a few field of beans yet to be cut i should get a few on them when cut(fingers crossed).
  15. you are right mpk,you would think nobody in there right mind would be happy to shoot that close to a road!
  16. i find the stealth net real hard to see through, especially birds approaching low.got one stealth net and dont use it no more.cammo nets everytime for me.
  17. ive had the turbo flapper and micro timer for a couple of weeks,i thought that maybe the flapper would put birds off once they commit to the pattern ,but it doesnt seem to so far.good bit of kit, flappers action really looks lifelike.highly reccommended.
  18. went out on recce all of last week in preparation for a hit on friday and saturday.all week things looked pretty quiet with just a single field of wheat stubble looking a little promising although i did nail 70 off it last sunday.so off i went on friday and to cut a long story short managed to scramble a bag of 33.come saturday thing were'nt really looking alot better and the mrs threatening to take me shopping!so i quikly jumped in the motor and away.i raced around my permissions and as in the week, and nothing looked good.on the way back home i pulled up in a gateway which hold a block of about 60 acres of cultivated rape stubble, which was dragged up straight after being cut.i,ve looked at this rape on several occasions over the last 2 weeks and never looked exciting.anyway i watched 3 woodies punt acrooss and drop down on the stubble, closer inspection and about 100 birds lifting off.RIGHT!!gained permission set up and straight away birds were coming through into the deeks.packed up at 4.30 with 112 in the bag.a epected quiet day come good.
  19. took friday off to have a go at the woodies, been watching a field of rape stubble and a field of wheat stubble both looking rather productive. i opted for the rape stubble simply cos i feel its the prefered diet of the woody.i took my brand spanking turbo flapper to give it a test run.i rolled 3 round bales up and put my sandy coluur net across the front.i set out 8 real birds on cradles and the turbo flapper with timer.the scene is set, time being 10.45am .5mins passed and the 1st woody in was smoked.over the next 3hrs i was begining to realise that although the birds werent really to fussed about feeding at this time of day the turbo flapper was actually putting the birds off.a dozen birds down i decided to turn the flapper off and the birds seemed far more confident to come in.3oclock the woodies activity increased so turning the flapper back on to see what response i would get, they loved it and were being pulled from quite a distance.pulled up stumps at 5.30 because i had a 40 minute drive to get the birds to the gamedealer 104 on the clicker great stuff.
  20. my gamedealer has just recently told me he is no longer taking pigeons can anyone help me out ? i shoot in the east sussex area and dont know of any other dealers taking woodies. cheers
  21. i often take pictures on my iphone when i go woody shooting but cant figure out how to get them on with my reports can anyone help please.
  22. i have been watching a field of spring rape which was drilled about a month ago.pigeons started to show interest when it was a couple of inches out of the ground.numbers slightly grew over a couple of weeks until the farmer decided to put out a gas gun and a huge fluorescent scarecrow, virtually killing any hope of me getting any sort of bag off of it!already suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms from not being in amongst the pigeons since february i continued to watch the field and their never seemed to be more than about 30 on it at any one time.i looked again on thursday and again their was about 40 on it but about the same got out of the trees.i decided to give it ago on saturday i turned up about 2.30 putting off about 20 birds i set up with my magnet,1 floater and 6 deaduns from out of the freezer .there was agood wind in my back and didnt have to wait long for the first arrivals smoking 5 in the first 10 minutes.packed up at 6.15 picking 36 really enjoyable woodies.the harvest cant come quick enough!!
  23. driving round my rape fields yesterday, sure enough the woodies were getting stuck in to what seems to be my old reliable field, this winter anyway!.thinking that i,ve at them 3 times in the last 4wks and they are about skittish i decided to do a first light attack.i dont normally do this cos you normally have flocks coming in for an hour and then thats yer lot!anyway all set up for 8oclock 5 minutes passed and on they came first flock in about 40 birds, and so it went on with nothing under 5 birds coming to my magnet at one time.at 9.20 everything that was moving was avoiding my magnet light the plague.pulled up stumps at 10.15 36 woodies in the bin.great stuff!
  24. got patience i give you that!!
