  1. We'll look into reed canary grass; can't recall why we decided against it some time ago. All our cover crops are fenced off from stock. A shoot I used to beat on uses fodder beet as a cover crop, and it is excellent for providing cover and holding birds, plus once the season is over sheep can be introduced onto it in sections. We have discussed doing this on our rough shoot where we put down ex-layers but the land which would be ideal is presently in a stewardship scheme and will be for the next couple of years.
  2. That 'raised' inflection some people put at the end of a sentence which makes you think they've just asked a question. There is a term for it but can't think what it is.
  3. He must be knackered! Fair enough; you need professional advice then in my opinion just to ensure you stay legit.
  4. If you dont feel comfortable , you only have seven days to wait until Bucks are in season. Can you not put it off until then?
  5. We tried it with corrugated sheets from an old roof, but before we even got halfway along one side we decided it was going to look too much like a pig pen so took them back down. We have since just piled hedge cuttings/trimmings along the west side and the grass which grows up through it and then collapses looks much better as well as offering cover, but it isn't instant.
  6. I can agree that the result will depend on the apathy of shooters, but if we follow your logic it would mean you are suggesting that following the shootings in Cumbria with a .22 rifle and 12 bore double ejector shotgun the reason why less than 2% of shooters nationwide bothered to sign petitions to lobby Government or lobby them via email etc was down to shooters having no interest in keeping their 12 bore shotguns or .22 rifles? Apathy, and apathy alone was the answer, and the inevitable 'someone else will do it'. I have no interest in taking up pistol shooting again in whatever calibre, but I signed primarily because I'm a shooter, and secondly because I believe in freedom of choice. You have the freedom of choice not to sign, and that's perfectly fine also, but don't lay the blame for apathy at the feet of pistol shooters; as a minority section of shooting as a whole they don't have the monopoly on apathy.
  7. Ah well; that's a big no no then. Good to know. Thanks.
  8. As above , looking for 2 x 3/4 or 2 x full or one of each for this gun. Have a couple of skeet and a couple of 1/4 if anyone fancies a straight swop or will pay cash. Many thanks.

    Thankyou very much.
  10. For the past 3 weekends we've been thinning out our main wood (still a long way to go) to allow sunlight to get down to the ground and create undergrowth and therefore warmth and cover at ground level. Most of the wood we log for either ourselves or to sell to fund the shoot, the remainder we pile in lines to create runs. Even in the space of two seasons we now have Brambles and Foxgloves making a comeback and lots of other woodland fauna which we hadn't seen before. A lot of the hedgerows have been eaten out by sheep; these are being double fenced when funds allow and we have just received 1000 mixed Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Hazel saplings, and spent this morning planting around 250 of them. The existing ones we rip out and throw the brash into the boundaries of smaller woods as the cocksfoot etc grows up through them in Spring/Summer and then collapses into the brash and creates warmth and shelter from the wind. Nothing likes wind. We also plant cover crops at random sites to hold birds away from our boundaries and all manner of pest control throughout the year. Our trail cam' has shown a Fox in the same place at the same time on two occassions this week, but so far whenever we've gone out it's been a no show,so we'll be out again this week as the only pheasants we're seeing now are cocks, so hopefully the hens will be sitting. Will mention Reed Canary Grass to the others; we had looked at it but decided against it, but if it's as good as it is claimed above, then it must be worth a go.
  11. You can get photobucket for your phone.I have it on mine.

Have just tried this one on my phone, and was mightily impressed, but will search through all the other recommended sites also. Many thanks all.
  13. This why I asked if it was one and the same petition. I didn't see the point in two petitions regarding the same topic, but if it is just one with backing from one of the mainstream organisations then I don't mind signing. If I recall, firearmsuk is edited and mainly run by a woman, but without going back on the site I can' t recall her name. As things stand I feel English firearms legislation makes us a laughing stock within the eyes of other nations whose Olympic shooters don't have to journey abroad to train. I'll be signing.

A bloke I sub' to quite a bit swears by some Norwegian weather site (dont have its name) for planning on site work and to be honest it does seem a good one. What site do the PWatchers refer to and swear by?
  15. Is this the one being e-mailed to various members via BASC, which was initially started by FirearmsUK?
  16. If you intend to shoot clays competitively then an o/u Sporter would be preferable, as that is what they are designed for. It can also be all you need in the game shooting scenario. The same can't be said for the sxs to the same degree.
  17. I think Clarkson has already belted Morgan once, but broke his hand while doing so. I'd love them to square up to each other.....and then Clarkson kick him squarely in the clunge. That's a surprise, clunge got through.
  18. As boys we were only allowed to play rugby at school (no football at all) but every now and then our gym teachers thought it a good idea to play the girls at hockey. To say we dreaded it is an understatement. Bloody rough game. Funnily enough, whenever we suggested playing the girls at rugby, our teachers weren't interested, though the girls were up for it.
  19. Fair points, but regarding your first sentence, the point I was trying to make is that licensing on its own will not ensure the acts which it is introduced to combat ( allegedly) will be achieved. Air rifles are indeed seen as a starting point for a young person to enter the world of shooting, but now licensing threatens to stifle that very basic level of entry. As has been said, there are already laws in place to cater for the misuse of firearms, all licensing will achieve is to cut off the supply of young blood. Yet another unnecessary obstacle placed in the doorstep in my opinion.
  20. Interesting; yet a Scottish government spokeswoman goes on to say they 'will' still introduce legislation in the next session. Sorted.
  21. We all are until we learn. Have a gander on 'Sporting pictures' thread; there is a pinned section of 'how to' post photo's. Photobucket is your friend.
  22. I don't think it's the fact they're wads, but plastic, and plastic as we all know, is a big no no in the environment. We use fibre only on our land for the benefit of livestock, but there again I've never heard of any animal coming to grief over consuming a plastic wad.
