  1. Hadn’t really thought of Scotland. Stayed at Crief a few times when children were younger. Probably more choice of hotels as well - Gleneagles etc. Having just watched the first series of Outlander I fancy seeing a bit of the Highlands.
  2. This has Keeley Hawes in it so I thought it might be good. But it’s absolute tripe. And so far in (three episodes) the cast comprises of white, black, Indian, Chinese, gay, lesbian, transgender, Down’s syndrome and wheelchair actors. I’m sure I’ve missed some off the list.
  3. No different. But are teachers prioritised above others for the things you mention? So who do you think should be sacrificed in order to vaccinate teachers above others? Just tell me where you would draw the line? 1) residents in a care home for older adults and their carers 2) all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers 3) all those 75 years of age and over 4) all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals[footnote 1] 5) all those 65 years of age and over 6) all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality 7) all those 60 years of age and over 8. all those 55 years of age and over 9) all those 50 years of age and over
  4. The problem with holiday cottages is that 1) they are rather hit and miss and it is hard to guarantee quality without recommendation and 2) the wife doesn't class it as a holiday if you have to make your own bed and provide breakfast.
  5. What about a 60 year old shop worker? or even a 50 year old one that would be at significantly more risk than a 25 year old teacher? The only criteria the government is using, apart from front line health care staff and even that is open to 'abuse' , at the moment is age and medical conditions. Imo adding extra professions to the criteria opens a can of worms.
  6. As it looks like overseas holidays this year won’t happen I need to start looking at contingency plans in the UK. I don’t fancy Devon/Cornwall/Dorset and have never really been to Wales so thinking about there. Any suggestions for a luxury hotel that is relatively close to good beach and other attractions. What areas in particular should I be looking at? Any suggestions for other areas? Cheers
  7. But the stats show they are not more vulnerable despite what you say about a shop worker having more protection. So who should fall down the queue to make up for a healthy 25 year old teacher being pushed up the queue? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55795608
  8. Some details of today’s deaths as reported by the BBC A further 563 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 71,789, NHS England says. Patients were aged between 24 and 99. All except 29 people, aged between 34 and 97, had known underlying health conditions. - full credit to the 97 year old who made it to that age without any underlying health conditions! The deaths were between December 14 and January 30. - this is always what I find weird. When the ‘daily’ stats are reported they aren’t actually deaths that day but often people who have died weeks/months before.
  9. Let’s not forget that if teachers jump the queue then others, perhaps more at risk through health or occupation, will move down the queue. Who makes that call?
  10. But but what about the hard border? Surely this means the terrorist will be out in force because that’s what we were told would happen if a hard border was reimposed due to Brexit! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55864442

    Corded phone

We moved to Fibre to the Premises last year so gave up our traditional landline (no point in paying so much just for phone). I was happy just to use the mobiles, however, the wife still wanted a ‘landline’ so ported the number to an IP phone provider and it now runs over t’internet. Only problem is if you lose power you lose the phone as well but it automatically diverts to the mobile then.
  12. On one of my shoots we had an ex syndicate member who lived right next to one of the drives. He had falling out with somebody on the shoot and became very difficult over shot falling into his garden. Mind you it was mainly huffing and puffing and threats to call the police. We just moved some of the pegs to avoid it. Inconvenient but better than stirring something up
  13. I see that the contract has been published. I don't see that the EU have a leg to stand on as it states "best reasonable efforts". So that means that AZ don't need to do anything that is commercially unviable in order to fulfil the contract.
  14. I’d be interested to know how ‘front line healthcare’ staff are defined. My ex works as a pharmacy assistant in a chemists in one of the large supermarket chains. She is having her jab today as ‘front line healthcare staff’. She is working alongside other supermarket workers who aren’t classed as ‘front line’ yet the risks are exactly the same. She has no idea how she was ‘nominated’.

    America

No. If you hadn’t realised the government here imposed a national lockdown. Where is the self management No freedom to manage your own risks here.
  16. So what. They can ask what they want. If I was the EU I would be demanding the same and if the boot was on the other foot we would be wanting Boris to demand the same. We just need to make sure AZ deliver what they committed and stop worrying about EU ‘demands’. Most of this is being hyped up by the press.

    America

There is all talk about lockdowns in the UK and Europe but CV19 in the US has been overshadowed by Trump/Biden. So what is going on over there? From what I hear there are no significant lockdowns (via friends in Utah, NY and Texas) and they appear to be ‘living with it’ with everybody taking their own precautions based upon their own risk assessment. Anybody else know?
  18. In respect of vendor management and managing supply chain risk then yes. But the UK government shouldn’t be bothered if AZ sell any vaccines, over and above what they have committed to the UK government, to the EU, the Americans or anybody else. It’s a commercial agreement.

    Forced to work

Plain unfair dismissal maybe but throw in sex/race discrimination into the mix and its a completely different ball game. Potentially unlimited liability and it doesn’t have to be expensive for the plaintiff. I’ve been involved in a few and would strongly advise any employer to avoid as much as possible.
  20. Depends on what it says in the contract.
  21. The UK manufactured vaccines are not just for use in the UK. They will be used worldwide. Clearly if AZ didn't meet their obligations to deliver to us then it would be an issue but there is no indication that they will do that.
  22. Why would they do that when all we would do would block exports of the vaccine as well. We aren’t getting that many doses of the Pfizer vaccine anyway.
  23. The AZ vaccine is manufactured in three plants in the UK, The Netherlands and Belgium. The NL and Belgium plants have suffered delays and hence the EU have told/asked AZ to honour the contract to supply and use supplies from the UK plant to do so. AZ are saying that they timelines in the contract are not legal binding as they were ‘best endeavours‘. I am not sure what the fuss is. It’s a commercial agreement between AZ and the EU nothing to do with ‘us’.

    Forced to work

Absolutely you would get slaughtered if you tried that one. There is no differentiation between getting pregnant by accident or deliberate. The only thing considered is pregnant or not.
  25. I thought, although I need to re-read the data, that they were comparing covid Vs non-covid deaths and hence identifying covid risk. if nothing else it’s a excuse to bash teachers.
